| Would anybody miss Salford, honestly?
Apart from tradition and a now barely noticeable presence in Manchester, they don't offer much for me.
In fact it would be a breath of fresh air for me personally. Give a Super League opportunity to a club showing potential plus a new strategy to push Rugby League in Manchester which quite frankly, Salford could have been getting in the way of with others feeling at risk treading on their toes.
Harsh but not worth the effort saving in my opinion.

| Quote Paul Youane="Paul Youane"Back to Salford; easy way to cut running costs would be to not bother running an Academy team.
Can't see Wigan wanting any of their young lads any where near the set-up at Salford. Powell and Murphy to follow the route of Mellor and Marsh.'"
It was said a few weeks ago that Powell and Murphy would be going to Salford on loan next season, since then Shaun Wane has said that he wants both of the young lads to complete a full pre-season before any decesion is made. It seems that both of them have been taken on the trip to Florida.
You can look at this in a couple of ways,he is either waiting for the outcome of the Salford situation, or it would confirm that Wigan do not expect to bring anyone else in and they are both needed for first team cover (especially Powell).

Except it isnt a financial bailout, and it says as much,
That is more to do with the huge amount of development work that Quins/London Broncos were doing in the south, it was the RFL taking on some more of those facilities rather than a big cash payout.

I'd agree, if we had some of these.
Sadly, outside of Toulouse and some small hints at Sheffield, there isnt any club banging on the door of SL right now.

The cost of a nurse is not just their salary, it would also include employers National Insurance and pension which is likely to take it to over £25k. Which would be about 30, which last time I looked was nearer to 25 than 40.'"
Councils don't pay for nurses anyway so I'm not sure what everyone's arguing about...

I know. The poster had already got on their high horse and became abusive when getting one simple thing wrong themselves. Lets not confuse them further by adding some new facts.

| Quote tigertot="tigertot"And your credible solutions to the problems? It's easy & fashionable to make extreme statements, but, contrary to belief, there have been some decent talent on board with the RFL. Lindsay, Watkins, Waite, Walker, Lewis, Edwards are not stupid people & have struggled to make RL sustainable. No different from all major sports. Without huge TV revenue we are limited to what we can do. I am not a fan of Wood, but that is largely due to the image of a fat, stereotypical northerner he portrays to the media. What I would do different is for the RFL to take control of RL in London & direct development there, if the amateurish attempts there are to be believed.'"
Extreme statements???

No, but they do pay plenty of other people's wages (my wife included, in Salford CC's case).
They are laying people off left, right and centre and their own staff are already pee'd off that they are even considering giving the reds money.

| Salford CIty Council refuse £750,000 lifeline to City Reds, stating too big a risk.
Where does this leave Salford Rugby now?

I can't see this as anything but short-sighted. Not only will it likely send them bust, but Sale won't be able to run that stadium on their own, and any leisure or additional retail development on that side of Barton bridge will surely come to a grinding halt too. Perhaps they're just more interested in the wendyballers down the road??
Having said that, I think it [i:23uxd0j3was [/i:23uxd0j3a mistake to move so far from Weaste, anyone know what their attendances before & after the move were?
[edit: i sit corrected, their avg attendance actually went up 16% between 2011 & 12
