If the league doesn't exist then why did Wigan get a trophy for coming top after 27 rounds last year?

Its this that makes our sport a laughing stock.....I have a few friends who I play cricket with who like to watch a bit of Rugby League from an impartial stance, and they are amazed that the League Leaders at the end of the regular season are not viewed as champions.

Most see the play offs for what they truly are.....An extension of the season, created, financed and hyped by Sky Sports, in order to fill their schedules.

The LLS is a relatively new recognition that was mainly done to make Bradford STFU as their Chairman bellyached for Britain about not getting anything for finishing top after the weekly rounds.

I think you are getting confused with the last time you topped the league in the 70s. The only credit you get is the club call which you will lose if you get turned over on friday. Anyway whats all this about, making plans for World Club Challenge 2012. Now you see why we come onto your forum and have a laugh at your expense.

But that's not true. They are the Super League Champions. Playoffs is not a League.

Can't agree with you there pal. The 'Super League' is comprised of the 27 rounds, play-offs and grand final. The winner of this is the winner of 'Super League'.

League Leaders after 27 rounds should qualify automatically for the GF, but with the current format it would mean a 3 week break and wouldn't be beneficial. That's another debate for another time though!

That really is arguing semantics. The point I made stands since the regular league season doesn't just determine play-off order, it determines the recipient of the LLS. If some people don't consider that "winning" anything that is their prerogative but I disagree.

Mmmm. Pot, kettle springs to mind with you (apologies Wigan Mods and all decent Wigan fans). Does anyone remember when SL first started there weren't any play-offs, the season just finished after the weekly rounds and the side finishing first were the Champions? The play-offs were brought in to provide an end of season comp (similar to top 8, 4, 16 and all the other variations we had prior to SL). As a result we now have three trophies, The CC, the League Leaders Plate, and the SLGF Winners Trophy. Being top after 27 games gains you a trophy AND gives you the pole position for the play-offs, so it can be viewed as both a competition in itself and a qualifying competition for the play-offs.
