What I don't understand is why Wellens was awarded a try tonight, yet Sam Tomkins was denied one last week for what was the same move.

IMO both were tries, but the difference was that Saints Steve was the video ref last week.

No Brown was taken out but then still had ample time to make the tackle, he had full balance and could have easily saved that try with better defending, i would have give that if i was vid ref.

There's no way the try should have been given. Yes Brown had time to make the tackle but he was pushed backwards out of the defensive line and Wellens went through the gap that was created by that. Had Brown not been obstructed the gap probably wouldn't have been there for Wellens to go through, as Brown would have slid across much quicker and been in line with the rest of the defenders.
