| Quote --[ WW --="--[ WW --":2fxl64zyExactly like Noble tactics, which most people on here agree are getting us nowhere. A good argument for not signing union coaches IMO
I think the best League coaches will be better at coaching League than the best union coaches, and going by his record as Oz national coach, Jones probably isn't one of those anyway.'"
Jones is regarded as one of the top coaches in that code, as you say you do not know anything about him, so why slate his achievements?

By who? Worst record of any Wallabies coach, in 2007 his Queensland Reds team finished bottom after managing 2 wins in a season. He had an advisory role with Soth Africa when they won the RUWC in 07. I remember reports of the final of how SA had managed to out England the English, that is play boring kicking rugby and relying on penalties ad drop goals to win. To me he sounds like exactly the kind of person I would hate to have at my club, and sounds very similar to Noble, so I have no idea why you are standing up for him

Mate i mean this in the nicest possible way but you in your first post said you did not know about Eddie Jones and now you seem to be an expert.
If you think Jones is not highly regarded as one of the most creative and attack minded coaches in the code you are wrong. The very fact he was asked to advise the World Champions clearly indicated he is well thought of, still 2 paragraphs on Wikipedia is a great depth of knowledge.

Maybe you're right, but I can only go off what I've read on him. From my admittedly limited knowledge he doesn't sound like the kind of person I would trust with improving our team. He failed with the Wallabies, failed with the Reds, then a played a part in the success of SA, who won with the negative tactics of kicking at every opportunity and winning the RUWC final by an enthralling 5 kicks to 3.
If you can link me to some sites that detail his success in improving teams attack and creativity I would love to read them

Its an interesting one to say he failed with the Aussies given they were far from favorited to win the World Cup, i think they were 3rd favorites behind the Kiwi's who they out thought in the semi and England.
Jones suffered his fate due to the lack of quality Australian players, after the retirement of the backbone of the Aussie team after the World Cup, something they are still struggling to come to terms with today.
Jones is regarded as the mastermind behind the SA win, and he adapted a game plan to produce a winning team that brought back the trophy at the top level, with arguably again not the most talented team in the comp, harldy something he should be criticised for surely?!
He won the Super 12 with the Brumbies i think using many League style tactics to the best running rugby union comp in the world, he has shown the ability to adapt, which is crucial.
As i have said i think it would be a huge mistake for him to come to Wigan and walk into the headship unless he had an experienced number 2 to offer him massive support, or back up.

| If this bloke was right in and if Jones comes to Wigan - say in some sort of Director of Rugby role - his League qualifications or lack of, may not matter.
Perhaps he could bring something to the table around club structure, player development, player analysis, junior development, nutrition etc...etc..
Perhaps it may be the type of role that Joe Lydon used to do, no hands-on coaching but input to the club from upstairs.
If he could bring something new to the club, which didn't upset the coaching staff, then I'd be up for it. Let's face it, we do need to improve a lot!!!!

Is working on the commercial side and community side i was thinking more like recruitment, development and performance of players. Similar to what Lydon 'did'.

Ahh fair enough. In that case, lets bring in someone from within RL, many many people could do that job.
