| Quote Father Ted="Father Ted"If Shaum Wane does take over the coaching job maybe he could train some aggression and power into our front row. He had those aspects in his game and some of SW's passion wouldn't go amiss right now!'"
Seems to me like the mists of time have actually enhanced Wane's playing ability......

| Quote Grego="Grego"If we can't bring in a top quality prop i would rather us go with what we have. Same goes for every other position now. We already have pretty good cover in every position with a lot of local lads in there so if we are looking at strengthening it should be outstanding players that are really going to improve us that we should be looking at not people to just bolster the numbers.'"
Thats what Ian Lenagan has basically said he's looking at doing but top draw players cost big money.
He'll have to be prepared to pay top dollar if he wants the very best players.

If memory serves, Waney missed quite a lot of match time through injury. That said, he was awesome the night we took Manly on - everything else is forgiven after that. (It was Manly or Aus in '86 - not quite sure, but I seem to recall him hititng every one of their forwards).
I think his rep these days owes a lot more to the very real coaching abilities he's shown while he's been at Wigan.

Agreed. Plus it would be a hoot to hear those none-too-dulcet Wigan tones on TV during interviews! He announces the team news in the lounges before each game and it can be quite entertaining, especially if you have any Aussies/Kiwis with you. They almost need a translation!
Seriously, it would be intriguing to see him given his chance. The obvious downside for him is that should it turn sour he will have lost everything - is it a risk woth taking from his point of view?

Depends how much ambition he's got.

That would concern me. If, for instance, he was given a caretaker-coach role while we were waiting for someone else to divest himself of his current job, it could backfire badly. If Wane does a good job ... what do we do: cancel the new guy's contract and back Wane (which, if the new guy was going to be someone special, would be a mistake IMO), or push Wane back into his former role, which might pee him off and send him elsewhere.

| Surely he'd take the risk though.
As a Wiganer if you got offered the top job at the club you know that it's a once in a lifetime opportunity and to turn it down would be madness imo.
I'd rather have a go and fail then sit back in 20 years and think 'what if'.

| Wane has other considerations such as a business away from the sport as I understand it, so it would not be the end of the world for him personally if he did make a hash of it, not that i am saying he would by the way.

| Would it not be wise to move for chris thorman can cover full back and stand off quite well.

| If we could train a chimp to cover full back & stand off, i'd rather do that than take Thorman on this year's form.
