If true that's truly awful! Why, is it because there's no coaching job for him? Is he going to be the reserve half back behind Field and Smith? Trouble is he blocks any overseas signing between now and next season. Unless they have managed to offload Clark.
Not good, not good at all!

| They’ve clearly messed up on the halfback front. I try and see the positives but Tommy is past his best and this feels like the decision to give that new deal to Tony Clubb two years ago. I just hope it doesn’t go as sour as that with people turning on Tommy because he has been an unbelievable servant for us.
Only hope of a new halfback now looks to be a British one (who, Lord only knows) or Field leaving to be replaced by one.

Next season is massive for the club as we hopefully come out of Covid. People who have got out of the habit of going to games need to be given something exciting to tempt them back - we could not make a mess of recruitment and retention and yet I find myself open-mouthed at some of the things going on. Not sorting out replacing Hastings and Gildart with quality replacements is simple incompetence - and while they could pull a couple of rabbits out of the hat, I'm not holding my breath.
Jesus, how long how they known about this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

The worry is that it’s possibly not incompetence but simply down to us not being able to afford proper replacements. Unfortunately the recruitment to date will only see crowds going one way and it isn’t up. That leads to less income, even lesser signings and a slippery slope. I’ve tried to be as positive as possible and tried to buy some of the lines from the fans forum but the 73k line especially is starting to feel like tall tales.
Let’s give benefit of the doubt and say all the info was the truth and nothing but and we’ve always been looking for a halfback, then serious questions need to be asked as to why Williams, Fages, Lolohea, Sezer and Austin have all been snapped up by other clubs and we’ve been going further and further down a list, until we’ve reached a 36 year old halfback, who has always been a better hooker, whose best days are behind him and is already on our books.
If we’re absolutely skint then tell us and tell us the truth. Don’t tell us we’re skint but expect people to be daft enough to believe that next years squad is costing close to the cap limit. If that is the truth then Rads should indeed do the right thing and walk away.

| Tommy May play a reduced amount of games as a backup for Powell and the 2 half’s . Sensible decision if he’s on reasonable money plus we need as much leadership as we can get . I think we will be better next season .

Yes I think the backlash to this is a bit premature. If we use him sparingly Tommy could be an asset - currently I would prefer him to be on the books next year. Clearly Harry Smith is not ready yet - if it wasn't for injury I imagine he would only have been given a handful of starts. Out of those two Tommy is the better option atm - we just have to hope that they will both play a back up role to Field at 6 and a new signing at 7.

| We’re talking about the club captain. If he continues to be part of the playing group, and retains captaincy i can’t see him being used sparingly.

| I like Tommy. He’s been a loyal servant and a terrific player for this club across both spells. But there is no way he should be playing on or we should be offering him a deal for 2022. He offered nothing this season in a struggling team where his leadership should have been key. He was anonymous and him playing on, and us offering him a deal to play on, is ludicrous.
The state of the club at the minute is appalling. Little wonder then that fans are staying away in their droves.

| I think I’d rather us sign Tommy for 1 year and try for a long term replacement next year (maybe Truman?) rather than sign someone like Miller on a 3 year deal.

Could Tommy be back up for Powell and still signing a half back ? fans forum said we had £73k left after signing a half back was Tommys wage calculated in that figure ?

| Leulaui offering to play for another season is only showing how bad the financial situation at the club is where signings are concerned!

Didn't we say that about Hastings? Keep him for 1 more year and then we'll be able to get a top replacement long-term.

| Plus Saints have resigned Roby at the same age with no backlash.
If we were doing well no one would blink at this decision and back the club.
