He will bring the skills and knowledge acquired under MM, combine them with the ethos of playing for the most famous club in the world, and continue the momentum that we have had over the past 2 years. There is no reason why we cannot continue winning things next year.

The King is dead. Long live the King.

From what I understand Wane did not pick Harris , he was picked for us by the RL who will be paying his wages as well as those of Thomas. Wigan have jumped at the chance to get a freebie as they will also jump at the chance to get money from union for Joel. I can assure you that the Harris bit is true.

What, that Wigan had no say in who they appointed as Assistant Coach?

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous.

Quote: DaveO "...FWIW there was also a rumour on there that IL offered Wane less than Madge but Wane held out to get the same deal (more than one reliable poster on there mentioned that).'"

That probably devalues all the other rumours by those same posters. How anyone posting on a forum could possibly know about details like that is beyond me.

Anyone who was close enough to Shaun Wane to know details that personal would surely be loyal enough to him not to spout it on some public access message board. I may be wrong but it seems very unlikely to me.

So would be signing a 37 year old ex-RU player with the RFL paying his wages.

No, not quite the same Dave. It would only be the same if Wigan had another assistant alongside Harris which they'd chosen, so Harris was a "bonus". Alternatively if the RFL gave us Thomas and said "YOU HAVE TO PLAY HIM EVERY WEEK", then it might be similar.

As it is, even if the RFL offered to pay Harris' wage, and offered him to Wigan, Wigan could quite easily say no. Fact is they didn't. So which is more likely, Wane ok'd the appointment and Harris was the best candidate, or the RFL forced him on Wigan and said he has to be your assistant or else....

The best scriptwriters in the world reside in the pubs of Wigan, I've said it for a long time. Give an innocent and boring story an afternoon in a couple of Wigan's boozers and it'll be the Third Man by the time Granada Reports is on.

I know certain posters are of the opinion that Harris was forced upon Wane. Well it maybe worth a listen to the piece below, as it comes across to me at least, as though it was Wane who sought out Harris, and it was also Wane's decision to appoint him, not Lenegan's.

What on earth are you on about? If it is ridiculous to suggest Wigan took on Harris because the RFL wanted them to then it is ridiculous that Wigan will take on Thomas for the same reasons but that is what was being assumed re Thomas. It's got nothing to with how often Thomas plays. It's about if Wigan are doing some strange deal with the RFL or not over a Welsh connection and taking on Harris and Thomas for that reason.

They could say no to Thomas as well if that were on the table so what is your point? I guess we will see one way or the other when he gets back from the RU world cup.

But Thomas is a bonus, he isn't integral to the running of the team (like an assistant would be). Thomas would be free, wouldn't count on the cap, and isn't that bad a player. Wigan would get a benefit (aside from the financial) to taking on Thomas. That's not the same situation with Harris.

Its different offering a player to a club who already has 25 players in their squad for free as opposed to forcing a club to have an assistant where they currently have 0.

We HAVE to use Harris (in this scenario), we don't HAVE to use Thomas. Thats why its different.
