| Quote: Lingfield Warrior "I don't mean to be cynical, but have there been any threads on here at any stage over the years protesting at Goulding being left out of the team?'"
Yes. We lost as game to Leeds when Noble was coach and Goulding was dropped when there were at least half a dozen other players equally at fault for the loss but as was his want Noble cast the blame towards a young player. He hardly got a look in again pretty much like several young players back then.
There was plenty of discussion about this at the time.
His career only got back on track after Noble left and since then when fit he tends to play so what does that say if not he is a first choice centre?
Quote: Lingfield Warrior "Madge basically benched him in his second year and I don't recall anyone taking him up on it, and I can't recall anyone arguing about his being dropped earlier this year. His stock may have risen because he wasn't playing last friday of course. Any Wigan fan who turns their back on the club because Goulding has left must be a close relative of his.'"
He was injured in Madge's 2nd year for most of the season. He has had an injury this year as well and as regards being dropped for the Cas game alongside Taylor there was plenty of dissent about that decision!

On this seasons form Goulding is well back in third place for the centre positions.
Goulding,
1 try, 2 clean breaks, 2 try assists, 738 metres, 22 tackle busts
182 tackles, 12 errors, 2 penalties, 22 missed tackles.
Sarginson,
7 tries, 8 clean breaks, 7 try assists, 1480 metres, 53 tackle busts
131 tackles, 12 errors, 2 penalties, 26 missed tackles.
Gelling
6 tries, 6 clean breaks, 5 try assists, 1751 metres, 45 tackle busts
132 tackles, 13 errors, 3 penalties, 19 missed tackles

Obviously the other big advantage that Sarginson and Gelling have is that they can also cover other positions.

And they have not had a recurring knee injury since the World Club Challenge and played in games when they really shouldnt have done. They have also not been dealing with contract negotiations and signed for another club 2 months ago. I am sure this hasnt had anything to do with Goulding's form this season though

What's Darrell having for his tea tonight, Mrs Goulding?

So basically you agree his form hasn't been as good as the other two? And Gelling has been in contract negotiations.
It's his decision, and he has taken it. Good luck to him I hope all goes well at HKR.
Also if he has this recurring knee problem then maybe that's a reason why Wigan weren't keen on a longer term deal?

What are try assists? I thought that Goulding had a significant role in 3 of Charnley's tries against Widnes?

| In the last second against Saints last week, with the ball travelling along the line and Josh on the outside, would you prefer Goulding, Gelling or Sarginson at centre?

| There's a highlights video called "Darrell Goulding - Wigan Warriors Highlights" on youtube which sums him up pretty well tbh. It's one of the most boring player highlights videos I've ever seen which emphasises that he is solid and not flashy. It also shows just how much time and space Tomkins created for him chiming in and making a 3 on 2.
I'm not slating Goulding nor am I only having a go because he's leaving. I had a good few discussions on the VT that he should've been in the England squad (as a centre) after the 2012 season, but in all honesty he has gone backwards since then. He'll be 27 next year and I imagine expecting one of his most lucrative contracts, and if he's not a guaranteed starter at Wigan he's not going to get that here.

FFS its a few clips that someone has done from about 4 games from last season, I suppose any reason to knock him. Funny how all the posters that have always criticised Goulding are still the ones criticising him to the end.

| Personally I think he is the best centre at the club and it wasn't that long ago there was uproar on here that he wasn't in the England squad. I didn't think he was international standard personally but many on here did. However like whenever anyone dares to leave our club people soon pretend said player is rubbish. You only have to look at the laughable charnley thread a few months ago when he was rumoured to be leaving as evidence.

No one is saying he is rubbish, just that he's the third best centre at the club and that it's probably for the best all round that he'll be at a club where he gets a spot every week. Let's be honest, I seriously doubt Saints, Leeds or Warrington will have been chasing his signature

Still on your crusade repeating the same nonsense.
You forgot to add this is all in your opinion which you try to dress up as fact. Obviously in many peoples eyes you are wrong and most people I know think he is the best centre at the club and by some distance. I would also much rather base my opinion on the last couple of years rather than the last couple of months when Gelling only got a game after Goulding told the club he wouldnt be staying, strange that. You have not got a clue who was chasing his signature either and I believe that Saints were indeed chasing his signature but he didnt even entertain the idea. If you think that Goulding wouldnt have been in demand you are living in lala land.
No matter how much you criticise Goulding it doesnt make your beloved Gelling a decent centre either.
