Maybe they could play each other in the car park at Wembley.

| Quote: SaintsFan "I think you might have this wrong, although I can't speak for all Saints fans obviously. What we at the match saw yesterday were two things: some very worried Wigan fans (like Saints fans, you go quiet when you're worried) and a Saints team that just lacked the cutting edge. We missed a halfback who could kick (the only way we would have overcome your defence in the first half). With the exception of the Stobart match, when we were trounced in every aspect of the game, Saints fans have been able to come away from our matches against Wigan knowing that we were just a bit off. 75-0 was great fun and we made the most of it while it lasted. But that isn't the only thing that rivalry is about. It's about believing that we can 'do you' next time out, and Saints have shown their fans just enough to know that that is a possibility. And I believe Wigan fans know that too. That makes for a quality rivalry (but not a fun one!).
I think you've hit the nail on the head there mate, there is a great deal of mutual respect between the 2 sets of fans because we both know that there is very little between the 2 teams.
As I've said on another thread, it's a pity that we won't be together in the final.

We get enough injuries to our biscuit based squad on grass, never mind concrete.

| Why are we not sad or down hearted ??? Because in honesty we expected wigan to destroy us after the way you performed against us in our " home game " the game was better for us than we thought. In the end we gave you a run for it, we always knew we would have to be at our best to stand a chance. Unfortunatlly Sam Tomkins is world class and you have him. No sour grapes ere and hope you destroy Leeds we had enough of there gloating after old trafford

Yes us and saints are boring our teams our clubs our history, just boring!
Just because your feeling left out because Wigan and Saints fans get on with each other and also know that Wigan vs Saints will be the game that both sets of fans look out for first when the fixtures come out and not wire.
You can comfort yourself in the knowledge that Wires biggest derby will happen next season when you play Widnes.

| I like how an older gentleman [Possible late 50s] tried to smack me after the game for congratulating my team for Winning, also screaming 'Cheating F**king scum' down my [Disabled] Dad's ear at full time. Love them classy Saints fans!

That's disgusting!
You will always get one or two idiots as does every club including Wigan, Warrington, Hull, Hull KR etc.
It's one thing having a bit of banter on a forum, but doing something like that in public is just pathetic!

| I think it was the RFLs faulty, as we had to get the tickets from them, they put us in the Saints side of the stand. Now all of the guys in the stand were great and we had some great banter throughout the game. I respect the hell out of Saints fans, but this guy was a tit, who should have known better. Luckily a steward saw what was happening and ushered him away. Saints fans on the whole I have a lot of time for.

| I wonder if this cosiness will continue if we rub their noses in it for the next 10 years? Beating them in cup finals and knockin them out of semi's left, right and centre like we used to do in the 80's & 90's?
There might be a bit of mutual respect but lets get this straight, they are not our equals!

| To be honest, from a third party perspective (lleds fan, sorry) I've found that pretty much all RL fans are fairly gracious in defeat, and that, as somebody said above, is why it's the greatest game. You get some bitter whinging on here after games, but my experience at matches has always been very different. A few Uncle Kn0bheads will always take victory or defeat in the wrong spirit, but my abiding memories are always of the banter and sensible discussion you can have with fans of any club after the game.
When I were but a lad after the '95 cup final, our coach stopped at services on the way home, and pulled up next to a Wigan coach. There followed some banter during which the Wigan fans presented us, by way of consolation, with a tray of "8 in a row" commemorative pies (I kid you not), with number 8s baked onto the top. It was my first extended conversation with other team's fans after a match and set the tone quite well for all that has followed.
Cracking pies as well.
Love Rugby League me.

| Christ, all this sentimentality is making me feel sick, you pie eating, one eyed, early leaving clowns
Nah, better team won at the weekend and graciousness comes from respect which has been earned over years of back and forth successes and failures. I'm still going to Wembley and look forward to having a beer with the Wigan fans, although I'll still be supporting Leeds I mentioned to the pie-eating missus that the game on Sunday was several levels below our game, and I would have been confident that either team would have won by 30+ points had the draw turned out that way.
As an additional note to the Wigan/Saints youth mentioned above, if Saints didn't have a top academy they would be in the transition that Leeds are currently in, a seriously below par one.
