Madge was an assistant...

Madge was also a big risk, thankfully it's just paid of big time.

| As long as Waney gets the job I don't care who is his number 2. The guy bleeds Wigan and with Wane in charge the culture at the club will not change.

I don't think he was quite so much of a risk as some people suggest. Certainly his success in the Super League will not have come as a surprise to many people in Australia.

| Quote: TheSurgeon "
They have spent years 'loathing' wigan'"
I remember a quote once being attributed to Harris when he was a player at Warrington that he would "never play for Wigan". But he was a kid at the time, and he was being interviewed in the Warrington press. Otherwise, I can find no evidence to support this assertion. Plus, given the due diligence Ian Lenagan likes to perform, I'd be surprised if anyone who loathed Wigan would get past the first interview.
Quote: TheSurgeon "
Not been succesful in coaching.'"
This is pretty undeniable,
Quote: TheSurgeon "
They dont 'fit in''"
This is nothing more than your opinion (and it sounds suspiciously like sheer, uninformed prejudice).
Quote: TheSurgeon "
Both of them can't talk properley'"
The irony of this one takes some beating. This bit's got to be a wind-up, hasn't it?
Quote: TheSurgeon "
Both of them (esp. scully) are scruffy gets.'"
Again, I've seen no evidence of this - quite the opposite where Sculthorpe is concerned, but even if it were true, I'm sure it's not beyond IL to tell them put a jacket and tie on when they're being interviewed on telly.
Quote: TheSurgeon "
They are just after a payday.'"
And I bet that's the last thing on your mind when you're looking for a new job.
Quote: TheSurgeon "
If scully was any good, dont you think his club. stains would have him in some capacity?'"
Maybe he didn't apply for a Saints job. Let's face it, they're not the force they were. Either way, this is no proof anything.
Thus far you haven't given a single valid reason why either of these appointments would be the disaster you seem to feel. Both are pretty new coaches, so it's difficult to see how 'having no coaching success' can be held against them yet.

| Has Scully really been unsuccesful as a coach? Granted he has had a pants year with Crusaders, but I reckon a fair amount of that has come from the constant unrest behind the scenes from a generally badly run club. But ok, I'll give you this year as a failure.
As Wales' national coach, he's been a success, he's got them into the 4 nations and had them winning games against teams who on paper, are probably stronger.
As assistant to Noble they got into the playoffs.

| Maguire has done the hard work changing the culture at Wigan. The fitness and professionalism of the players is a credit to the club and fans; add to that the enthusiasm of the younger players and a real team ethic with everyone giving their all for the cause.
The club have the blue print they just need Wane and a.n other to carry on the good work. I have no problem with that being Harris or Sculthorpe

| I don't actually think Harris has done such a bad job this year at Crusaders, i'm not sure any coach could have saved that sinking ship this year.

Makes you wonder about Nobles decision to quit when he did. He took them to the play offs so he did seem to have something to work with.

But if you see whats happened there - lord knows what's been going on with players wages and such this year, its remarkable they have pulled off any wins and been at least semi-competitive this year.

Noble knew the writing was on the wall; fair play to Harris for handling the situation and as you say producing some wins, the hammering of the Giants being a stand out

Not saying that Wane et al aren't capable, but a top head coach also has to be able to come up with new systems and adapt them to produce a plan B when plan A isn't working. No good just saying "we just need to carry on what we're doing."
Wane deserves his shot, unless we could get a big name from Aus, which is unlikely. Promoting Wane should mean the professionalism, attitude and fitness levels remain high, it's just whether the new coaching team can be as technically astute as Madge that's the worry.
