Quote: ABP' "I don't think Celtic are getting as many compliments as they deserve. I thought they did the basics very well and completed their sets by finishing them off with a good, deep kick that usually kept Richards pegged back in his own ten or twenty. In defence, they slowed the play the ball effectively and really pressured us into situtions where we'd be too flat in attack and Tim Smith in particular seemed caught in two minds on occasions.

With regards to us, there were points when there was a complete lack of structure when we should have been playing smart, and then there were times when when we'd built up momentum and have good attacking opportunities but would revert to simple five drives and kick. I thought we made some very poor missed tackles, probably the most in any game all season, the Tim Smith/Amos Roberts attempt in the first half was probably the worst example and that lead directly to a try.

Our main playmaker yesterday was Mark Riddell and I thought he played very well. He ran from dummyhalf frequently and seemed relatively dangerous all game, making a few breaks & halfbreaks but let himself down when that kick went out on the full in the second half. Again, another player that let himself down with another costly mistake was Feka when he knocked on in our own ten. Until then, he was playing well making lots of yards in the process and I've seen a thread on here in regards to him which I think is a knee-jerk reaction. I was happy with Gleesons performance and his footwork is very good, but the only link up with Roberts seems to be the inside ball. I'd like to see Roberts hug the wing more and Gleeson try to suck in the winger. As regards the fullback position position, I thought we seemed much more dangerous in attack when Phelps switched there. He seems to link up better than Pat and has a good pair of hands that on one occasion set up an Ainscough break after cutting a couple of players out. Although Richards returned the ball ok, I prefer him outwide. I felt a little sorry for Ainscough and it seemed to be another case of one extreme to the other which unfortunately lead to him being subbed. He threw out a couple of crazy balls on the kick return, one that left us with little space and we ended up in touch and the other being passed straight into touch. When he did return the ball correctly, he looked fast and was hovering across the defence looking for a gap to jink through Robinson-style. He was dangerous, but lacked composure. I'm sure he'll learn.

I thought Stuart Fielden was bullied throughout the game. He was smashed from all directions and I think the only way he'll improve significantly is if he piles some weight on. Other mentions...Flanagan did well when he came on, particulary in defence but I would have liked to see him with the ball in hand a bit more. Tommy seemed quite dangerous in parts especially backing up the ball carrier, I think he's made for hooker.

All in all, we didn't play very well but we weren't dreadful. Celtic just handled us well, played the basics and striked at the right times. We didn't have the composure or correct tactics to control the game.'"

Regardless of all your positive comments towards the Celtic side, they possibly played the best they can. But it was still a NL1 standard performance from them.

Wigan should have had NO problems beating them and beating them with ease.

That dropped pass by Feka was abysmal. And he looks even more enormous. Someone at the club has to take of grip of his fitness or ship him out.

Correct. I didn't go yesterday but I passed comment on him at the Salford game. His condition is nothing short of appalling and is an indictment of not just himself but the club too.

I don't care Alex. He needs to be disciplined for letting himself go in the way he has. If he played well yesterday, how good could he be? Let's face it, he is light years away from earning another Kiwi cap.

But I don't see how ''he has let himself go''.

He was on the field no less and played no worse than usual. In fact, he was one of our better players.

He and Coley were our only players making decent yards. The only direct criticism he derserves is for the knock on.

Don't you think he looks way out of condition? I certainly do, and think he needs to shift some serious weight. As a full time professional athlete I expect to see a different body shape to that on display at the moment. He may have made good yards against the worst team in the entire history of Superleague, but he is surely capable of performing better if his physical condition improves.

Also, it gives me cause to speculate about our training regime and to wonder just what our players are allowed to get away with. Allowing him to take the field with a 40" gut and a pair of shorts bigger than my table cloth ain't good enough for me, I'm afraid.

I was at the game on Saturday and it seemed to me that it was the same old story. Absolutely no sign of a kicking game, Tim Smith's defence was dreadful, Stuart Fielden is so far past his sell by date that he stinks and no passion! IMHO Noble should sort out which of the players is staying next season and the ones who aren't should be put in the reserves. That should give a chance to all the hungry young Wigan lads who really care for the club. We have nothing to lose either way as I feel that Warrington will stuff us in the Challenge Cup even if make a 100% improvement on Saturday's dire showing.

Quote: Pemps "We should be putting a team, with 1 win (at that point) out of 15 games, away with relative ease with or without Hock and Lockers. We've got a squad of what I thought were decent players. The fact that those 2 are missing shouldn't matter against a team like Celtic.

We should be giving Wakefield a game with those 2 missing.

Their league position is a very valuable point in this. They are bottom of the league for 1 reason and 1 reason only. They're crap! They've got the worst points for and the worst points against. They've won 1 game and, up until yesterday, were 8 points adrift at the bottom. If we were 2/3/4 games into the season then we could say that league positions are irrelevant, but we're 16 games in and at this point a teams position in the league tells us all we need to know particularly when they're adrift at the foot of the table.

I wasn't there yesterday but I didn't need to be to make up my mind about how good we were. The sooner something happens with this team, whether that's players dropped or people ousted, the better for me.'"

They weren't crap on Saturday were they? They just used very simple tactics and they basically kicked us to death! We seemed to start every set on our own 10-20 yard line. They didn't slow the play down any more than we do when playing the likes of Leeds etc and you can't even blame Ganson!

Feka's size and physical appearance is irrelevant providing he does what is expected from him. He size and weight is what creates impact, yards, attracts defenders and keeps him standing for enough time to produce an offload. If he loses size and weight he will not be as effective in this role.

IMO, Feka is doing his job with the tools best suited to him. There is no point in moulding him into a style of prop that he isn't built to be. I think the question is; Is Feka the style of player that we want within the squad?

Personally, I think we do.

I'm glad I'm not the only who thinks he's fine as he is. He works hard on his fitness and responds to whatever criticism people decide to throw at him because he doesn't look like LMS. He's an impact prop who does a job for us. Just because he isn't Morley or Peacock doesn't give us the right to try and change him.

Feka's size and shape sends a message to all current and prospective players about the level of professionalism demanded by the club.

So his performances mean nothing?

If his size and shape was such a negative issue than I'd doubt he'd be one of, if not the most popular player at the club.

Players coming through the ranks aren't naive nor thick enough not to understand Feka, his physique and the fact his presence within the first team largely (excuse the pun) down to his physical size.
