| For all saying what I f Lam goes very well.
Well here is an idea and you might not know of this but most really successful coaches from the NRL who get a good job in SL tend to go home very quickly to a better job. Now what if Lam makes a real good go of it and lets say gets offered the Eels or Cowboys job.
Saints will find out that this season when those 2 sides come calling for their coach.

| The way i read the club statement is that Lam wants to use this as a stepping stone to a NRL and it ticks a box on his CV, I’ve no doubt that he will be working very hard to make that a positive tick rather than having a jolly for a year.
Welcome home Shaun.

| Lam has gone into this with his eyes wide open, and it looks like a great arrangement for all parties.

Yes he has and the way I see it he may stay meaning he will be Shaun's assistant.

More likely that he will go back to the NRL - provided of course all goes well.
My train of thought now would be; what is the marker for success next season? A trophy? Same league position with a better playing style?
Considering the squad is likely to be overhauled at seasons end with the loss of S Tomkins and J Bateman with SoL looking ever likely to also retire and G Williams looking probable to leave also; it leaves a huge whole in our spine IMHO and it will be one heck of a tough job to sort through. That being said if all 4 do leave instead of the already confirmed 2, there lies a significant windfall in relation to money off the salary cap which must be re invested back into the squad with new acquisitions.
So far we've brought in
1. Hardaker
3. Hankinson
11. Greenwood
10. Bullock
7. Lam (likely to be confirmed soon)
If GW does go alongside SoL we'd need a new #6 and I don't see any reason why that wouldn't or shouldn't be a marquee player. Personally I'd move Hamlin to #13 but I don't think I'd grumble if we chose to leave him at Prop and bring in a new #13.

| Lam mentioned improving the attack, perhaps if George was thinking of leaving he might change his mind especially with Edwards coming the year after.

Personally, and for his own career’s sake, I think he’d be far better if staying at Wigan where he’d be all but guaranteed a starting berth at HB. His form may improve an awful lot on what he has served up recently and he may even get a starting spot for England.
In the NRL I personally think he’ll end up at Newcastle’s feeder side more than starting NRL HB alongside Hodgkinson.
I’m with you in that I hope he sees the opportunity to work under Lam and Edwards far too good to turn down but the lure of the NRL may well trump it.

| People talking about Lachlan Lam but Adrian has already said that if Lachlan comes he will only be here for a year. That doesn’t help with continuity again, unless Edwards gets to pick someone to sign for us for when he starts.

Do you think they’ll be ready come 2020? Hearing good things on both but we may just need somebody to plug a gap for a year or two around then to give them chance to come through. That’s assuming Williams stays as well because if he goes then we’ll probably need two players aside from the year of Lam between now and the start of 2020.

Shorrocks and Woods and Hampshire before them were also waiting in the wings. I like the young wiganers as much as anyone, but they don’t always develop to be the players we expect.
