Quote: Mini Rogue "I don't think Greenwood is good enough for this Wigan team, very big forward but never ever runs his weight and his injuries are a worry. I think we missed a trick with Josh Jones, and most certainly last year should of tried more with Matt Whitley. Greenwood as well I imagine will be on decent sized contract. I remember Waney commenting on about him last year that he's not your typical Wigan style forward, absolutely correct on that one.'"
I totally agree with the above.
Even when firing on all cylinders I have never been convinced by him.
Yes he has looked impressive at times but generally he has flattered to deceive.
I think there are 2 key issues with him, and unless something changes very quickly in relation to both these then I fear he will go down as a lad who had bags of potential but couldn’t achieve it.
First one is obviously his body, be it bad luck or not he is picking up too many injuries. He seems to go down clutching something after every drive.
More crucially and I feel it is related to the first issue is his mental strength. I doubt his work ethic or his mental toughness.
It’s interesting a good friend of mine who had a good career in the second row said to me when we signed him how he only really tended to appear in the attacking half of the field looking for the ball.
He noted when Saints were looking for someone to take it off their line he was never really willing to put his hand up.
Not sure when his contract runs out but I think next year will be make or break for him at Wigan. He needs more time on the pitch and a bigger influence over a game.
I also agree Josh Jones would have been a fantastic signing he has all the attributes that we could use to compliment what we have but I assume given our recruitment it simply wasn’t financially viable.
