Fair comment he would certainly have some input but the question would be would Wane actually drop smith for him to play? I can only see Tommy L playing interchange hooker under a wane regime.

Good point, would only say that do you think they have improved. I think they have, Williams after a bad international showing is really up and running again after a bad injury, Gildart is looking better and better. I know we all want the win but I think with a just a couple of players back we could be right in it (Gelling I think is a big miss, as well as Faz) and we could be saying we got through by beating an exceptional Hull side. ateotd we just lost (if some forward pass decisions went our way we could have!) and we lost against a very very good Hull team. Calling for Wane to be sacked after that seems to be a knee jerk to me.

| Quote: Listerofsmeg "Well Sam is not the attacking threat he was and I think you will agree that a lot of that could be attributed to his injury (maybe not all but most)
defensively he is playing as well as Hardaker did last season, to stop Ellis from that range... not many FB's could do that. Plus his efforts under the high bomb have been incredible, something he struggled with before he left.
Mossop is getting back to his old self after a poor start, again see injuries. With regards to second hand pros, Flower has been great, Lockers played well tonight, Crosby is coming on well, yes jury out on a few but you can't expect a team of world beaters especially considering the cap difference between Aus now.
You have a fair point with lack on interest but do you think if we had a fully fit squad we would be performing a lot better in attack?
Also what are your opinions on TL coming in to freshen up the attack?'"
Sam was seriously injured before we resigned him..he will never be the same player again, though i do think his experience etc will be good for the team, but not on the silly money he is commanding.
Mossop is garbage, no aggression, a character from the wizard of oz sums him up.
Flower has been average, discipline has been poor, mind the whole team is guilty of this.
Crosby average joe, average yards.
Not interested in Aus salary cap, this team is so average and poorly coached with shocking discipline it a joke.
Tommy is a stop gap for his coaching but if people are thinking a Paul Deacon style signing they need to look who was the coach then and who is now.
Wane is a joke and should be sacked tomorrrow.
He won't be though so we can trundle on to another end of the season playing garbage rubbish rugby and slowly watching the fans disappear with no pots in the cabinet..

Sorry new to forum, should put this on same reply!
I think he would, he has said many times Wigan is a team where you have competition to your spot which Smith lacks atm. Though you might be right, can only tell next season

| Quote: Listerofsmeg "I would keep Wane. 100%.
I agree the attack has been terrible but lets be honest, we still have a huge number of players out and the players we have back have had hardly any time to gel. Can anyone tell me how many games we have had first choice 1, 6, 7 and 9 on the pitch (replace 9 with 13 if you want to ignore MM)? Also Wane has acknowledged he needs fresh ideas, that will come in the shape of TL next season which will make a huge difference in that it will either make Smith buck his ideas of or replace him with a better player. '"
Next season? What about this season! We will sound like Wire if we are not careful next season will be "our year". Last year Sam was going to be the saviour in 2016, now it's TL next year. Getting a bit fed up of this.
Quote: Listerofsmeg "On the positives of this look at the age of the kids in that squad, Dom 22, Williams 21, Bateman 22, Oli 19, Sutton 20, Tierny 21, Bretherton (20 i think?)
The defensive display on show by these young lads has been nothing short of incredible, they grew up playing for Wane and i don't think anyone else could bring that out of them. Look at Leeds and Hudersfield and how they coped with injuries.
With all this in mind just think how many games we would win with no injuries and TL improving our attack. I still think we have a chance in the GF if we get some bodies back (be lucky currently) but I am damn excited to see what this young group of lads can do under Wane.'"
Injuries are part of the game. In any case our attacking problems have been going on for two seasons at least now regardless of who is fit. Statistically I believe it is our worst attack in a season since 1982 and we are averaging 19 points a match. That is the problem right there and the person who is responsible ultimately for that is the coach. It also means we are very boring to watch! We play like robots and Smith and Powell virtually [inever[/i take the line on.
We play the same game week in, week out regardless of who is on the pitch. We have one game plan and Wane expects young players or players out of position to execute it. Quite often we even play with effectively 16 players as he puts a player on the subs bench who he brings on for 10 minutes. He subs by the clock and takes players off who are causing problems regardless of what is happening on the pitch.
The "our attack is useless" is now a stuck record to the extent it's drowning out all the other inadequacies. If we win the GF it will be more luck than judgement and I'd replace him anyway.
Won't happen though. IL will point to the injures, say we have TL and Budgie back next year. If so we can expect more of the same.
I think with a different coach we'd be a far better team . Just as we were when Madge replaced Noble.

Take the blinkers off. There are no exceptional sides in this league. Wane needs to be sacked because he has seen Wigan knocked out of the CC three seasons running, all in a way that the blame can be laid fairly and squarely at his tactics. He was outcoached by Powell and Chester previously and the problem with the attack that cost us the game tonight has been around a lot longer than this game and this season. Knee jerk reaction it is not. Stop making excuses for a poor coach.

| Been watching Wigan & Man Utd since my Dad ( God rest his soul) took me to the games in te early 70's relegation for both were my early memories but I was hooked and have followed both home and away until around 2009.
I now go to both several times a year but I must say this is the least entertaining Wigan side i have seen in my life.
We need a change with a focus on free flowing rugby which means Wane must go.....harsh maybe necessary absolutely.

| Time for a change now 5 years is enough
Bottled the last 2 grand finals and countless big games
But the biggest oversight is the failure to recruit a top goal kicker in the last 3 years

| SW is totally and utterly out of his depth.
Monday will involve a kick up the arris and more weights plus weights.
Well I'm under the pump and my middles won't hold our anymore so as a supporter of nearly 50 years I must say this is worse than the relegation period.
If he is in charge next year I won't go.
If he is charge next week I won't go.
Until he and KR are gone I won't give up my hard earned cash and yawn for 2 hours anymore. As fans we must protest and stop attending until the total utter shoite that surrounds the club is eradicated
Total utter tripe.

Tony Clubb: "This is a new exciting chapter of my life signing for Wigan and I couldn't be happier" 18/10/2013
Romain Navarrete: “I’m very happy to have signed for Wigan Warriors. As soon I knew that Wigan were interested, they were the only team that I wanted to sign for. To me, Wigan is the biggest Club in Rugby League and it will be an honour to pull on the famous Cherry-and-White jersey next year. I look forward to working with Shaun Wane and the players at Wigan.”:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10172.jpg |

Thanks for the positive notes. However, this thread is less about defence, which seems fine, but more about a lack of attack, borne out by our low scoring. Yes, we did well in 2013, but that was two years after Madge left, with a core of players used to playing with him. Since then, we've lost Harris and Deacon, and have become so predictable, we are easy to defend against.

Shaul ran the ball for just 4 metres more than Tomkins on Friday, despite Tomkins having one less carry, and those figures are skewed a little as Shaul had the one run from a Hull offload.

| Some of the hysteria from some of our fans is pretty laughable (mostly from people who've wanted him out since 2012).
I've always been a supporter of SW, but if we go through another season trophyless then a shake up is required and if there is a genuine better option available then it may well be time for him to move on. The brand of rugby we have played over the past couple of seasons has been awful and I can't really get my head around why. People say that SW hung on to Madge's coattails but he put a lot of emphasis on the skills side of things in preseason before 2012 and that is the most consistent, most exciting and best to watch rugby under either coaches tenure.

| Yes. Four out of five seasons ending with us winning neither the CC nor the GF would be a terrible showing given the foundations Maguire laid and the talent Wane has had at his disposal. Now we are playing some really poor rugby in attack.
In 70 games Maguire was only beaten by 10+ on three occasions (4%) and the record deficit was 27. Teams had to come up with something special to turn us over and even we were almost never trounced. Under Wane we have been beaten by 10+ in 21 games (13%) and suffered five deficits that would have been records under Maguire in the past two seasons alone.
To sum up, our attack is poor, we don't turn up some weeks and get thoroughly battered, and we aren't winning trophies. I'm not saying bringing back Maguire is the way forward but it's definitely time for a change after this year barring a grand final victory.

Well, my first thought after watching the two CC semi-finals was, that looks vanishingly unlikely. We would need a sea-change in attacking form to get near the best of the rest.
