| My thread title is possible a little OTT
However i am really struggling to recall a Wigan three quarter causing so much damage during one game. George was (IMO) our best centre in the last 5 years. However i never saw him as 'busy' as gelling was last night during a single game.
Ive rated this lad for since day one. Its really great seeing him do what he has always looked to be capable of

| Why are some people so intent on not giving Gelling the praise he deserves? Is it stubbornness due to so many having criticised him relentlessly since he joined?
He had a brilliant game last night. It's not his first, nor will it be his last.

| The side of attack with Tomkins, Gelling & Manfredi is looking formidable at the moment. Gelling was good, but my man of the match was Joel Tomkins. Absolute machine last night.

Not singling out anyone, but our marker defence was poor, especially that first 20 mins when we were making Higham look good. Also the big missed tackle for Currie's try...might have been Smith, not sure. Not had chance to watch the TV coverage yet but that's what stuck out at the match, for me.

Fitting Lockers back in to the side is becoming an issue and a very good one. He obviously plays but who for? Faz is back to his best, Bateman has been top class all year and Joel was outstanding last night and is having a top season.
Good problems.'"
I agree and rotation would be one answer to the Lockers dilemma, hoping all keep fit that is. I’ve always believed in Gelling’s ability, but not on the wing. He does have you on the edge at times when his brain goes into melt down but we must remember he’s not yet the finished article. IMO Josh Charnley has is work cut out to get his place back from Manfredi, and for one I’m glad. I know he’s had injuries but even when fit he seems not as sharp as was so a bit of place competition won’t do him any harm. My advice to him would be to cut down on the time he gives to social media, and dreaming about strange new styles in his coiffure, and concentrate bit more on his job.

| Did anyone see the moment when a Wire player's gum shield came loose in the tackle and Gelling picked it up and ran off with it! Hilarious The guy is a comic genius.

| As has been said the title is a bit OTT.
We had some excellent games from Gleeson and Carmont. Goulding was a very good centre who played in an understated way and under-rated manner but some games he was great.
Josh was top try scorer for 2 years with Goulding as his centre.
Gelling was brilliant last night but lets not forget he was playing against their left side of Patton, King and Ormsby. Advatage Gelling and Wigan, him Tomkins and Manfredi ran riot.
What on earth was Smith thinking about selecting those young kids to play alongside each other against such big, powerful, fast and skillful players Wigan had opposite them.
Smith knew who was going to play on Wigan's right side so what on earth was his thinking.
The Wire BOD should be asking serios questions of Smith over his squad selection.
That's unless Agar was in charge of selection, if so that would explain everything!
The extent of his coaching is ''BASH EM, JUST F*CKING BASH EM. HE'S LOW ON CONFIDENCE, BASH HIM''
He's a limited coach that won't last long term.[/quote:8f22o6ue]
....
That would make Wigan strong favourites then. With Ratchford at FB and Patton with Cronk in the halves, I think we'll do very well without Sam.[/quote:8f22o6ue]: |

| According to the St Helens forum he has been playing 2nd row all year because he was in a scrum at one point during a game! I have enjoyed Rocky's last 4 games playing loose forward!
Any way, back to the land of the living i have to say Gelling was excellent last night. He can be excellent but yesterday was a step beyond what we have seen before. Tomkins certainly had his best game for Wigan since his return, the sort of game we need from him. I think we were really on our game in attack and had our best team performance on that front. The defence was poor, but we have shown when it matters we will put in incredible defensive efforts.
Rocky dropped a couple of bombs and didn't have his best game, but i think his instinct of when to support a break and his general play out the back is pretty impressive even in his poor games. Completely different style to Bowen. Would like to see him at 6 sooner rather than later, but not sure Williams will be going anywhere after yesterday. Smith to sit out and Williams to 7 maybe?

| Salford game apart, Williams continues to look more and more at home at 6. Perhaps that old fool Wane knows something after all?

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| He's the new Iro, absolute beast. I felt sorry for those young Wolfs getting roasted, they just couldn't handle him.
I bemoaned our lack of X factor players earlier in the season but things are starting to look a bit different now. We've got threats all over the field and things are starting to click. I still believe we are a Blake Green short of silverware but I expect we'll make at least a final this year on current evidence.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg |

The early part of the season has been really difficult, but thats the same most seasons. You will find that many of the older heads here, kept theirs, and hopefully we can kick on from here. We have some very talented players out there, but when things don't click, it will look terrible. We have a terrific young squad, we can't keep all, so expect moans on here when people leave... we do however have a very good signing for next season.. But, i think we will do quite well this year.
