| Quote: tigertot "Exactly, I said from the outset I expect a one game ban, which Leeds can't argue with. I was suggesting it maybe wasn't a malicious, deliberate attack to the head which could warrant more. As Phil Clarke said, following Westerman's similar effort, there should possibly be the option of a 10 minute spell of reflection immediately after the event.'"
It's on youtube now for those who missed it and it looks deliberate to me. He certainly hits Anderson harder than Micky Mac hit Laffranchi.
'Rugby League Big Hits: 2012 Play Offs' about 30 seconds in.
2 games for mine.

I don't really feel that he would be swinging his arm at the ball because there was already one Leeds player in the tackle so had he dislodged it, it would have been a penalty.
However, I can't understand why he tried to take his head off...just a rush of blood.
The sky commentator had aked Brian macdermot for comments at half time and he said that he wanted them fired up, dominating the opposition (or words to that effect). Maybe McGuire was too fired up.
Why would McIlorum smash the Saints' player? He was always going to get caught out, if not immediately, later. He was too fired up. He is always fired up but McGuire was fired up because it was such an important game.

If found guilty should be given the higher tariff given his previous ban this year. I would expect Danny's season to be over about 6pm this evening.

| It doesn't matter to Wigan whether he gets one match or two. He can't possibly play aginst us on Friday. If justice is seen to be done, of course, he will get two games, one of which will be carried over to next season.

I'm sure it happens but not very often. It's the least subtle way of forcing the ball loose possible and would almost certainly lead to nothing other than a repeat set. McGuire is smarter than that.
Besides it's not a great defence that he was swinging at the ball. Players are simply not allowed to swing their arms and catch players in the face and are entirely responsible for the consequences. When Gareth Raynor swung his arm at Tomkins and knocked him out I don't think many people thought he was deliberately trying to smack him in the face, he was clearly trying to dislodge the ball but that didn't count much in his defence. I'm pretty sure he got a 3 match ban for that incident. McGuire is very lucky he wasn't charged with a Grade C offence because many other similar incidents have been and have received a 3 match ban.

And then, in Leeds's own inimitable way, it'll probably end up being our fault.
Just like Danny's self-inflicted injury did back in 2010.

I was in a minority of about one on the Bradford board when i suggested the distance between Tomkins head & the ball was such that it probably wasn't an accident. The difference in McGuire's & Raynor's body language after the event were telling also.

My mistake, Raynor got a 2 match ban for that incident. Although the disciplinary did say "The committee are of the opinion that this incident was a case of the player going to save a try with his arm outstretched to knock the opponents arm or the ball." So they thought he was making a genuine attempt to get the ball but that didn't excuse the nature of the contact.
For me McGuire's falls under the same category and should get the same punishment but as some Wigan players have got a bit of stick for suggesting; the disciplinary is a lottery.

The "Brains Trust" on the Whinos board are already suggesting he's been cited because of Wane and Tomkins. Obviously nothing to do with the swinging arm to the head.

He already has so the pressure must be off now?

It seems like your right
It's pretty sad stuff really. I think they reached the stage in 2010 - mainly under the influence of McClennan and Peacock - where they actually believed that Wigan were somehow culpable for the injury that put McGuire out for the rest of the season. (That would be the one he inflicted on himself while fouling George Carmont off the ball).
How they can seriously believe that Shaun Wane has influence at RFL - after what happened to McIlorum - is mind-boggling, especially as a) McGuire was put on report three days before Wane opened his mouth, and b) the judiciary have not even handed down a verdict yet ( ). But apparently they do.
