| Foster is a very average player and I really dont understand how some fans can get so wound up by him. The Sky hype certainly has not helped him or his career and someone should have a word with Eddie and Stevo about the damage that can be caused by hyping young players up way beyond their actual ability.

I totally agree with that, which is another reason why it was embarrassing to see him targetted the way he was. If he was a good 'un it would be more understandable, but he isn't.
Talk about revealing insecurities about all things St Helens.

The Communist Cap - dragging down success and aspiration to the levels of those who cba.: |

| I agree with the OP, bit unnecessary, especially given his lack of talent.
Still, it happens all over sport.

| Didn't think there was anything wrong at first, a bit of booing and laughing everytime he had a shocking moment is something that happens for a lot of players all the time. I'm sure matty smith will get the same treatment by some sections of saints fans. I do Think it was unnecessary for a certain section in the south stand to start calling him a *wa*ker" though, that was way ott.

I'm sure you're right, but it has no relevance to this topic.

Yeh, fully agree, no one has mentioned the Moa incident at all have they? Oh... Wait.... there's already a 5 page thread on it, my mistake...
What on earth has that alleged incident got to do with a player who hasn't particular done anything to anyone being called what he was for 80 minutes?

| From my vantage point in the Boston stand it did seem to knock Foster psychologically. Job done?

| Whats the problem in calling him a w@nker? He's a nothing player who thinks he's the dogs knackers and celebrates when he kicks a penalty (did it in the grand final). Not really sure that questioning his sex life is a major problem. They could have gone a lot further which would happen at football and has happened at Wigan many times in the past.

I agree, why should opposition players be made to feel comfortable?
Now racially abusing a player is an entirely different matter and should not be tolerated.

It's not questioning his sex life, it's just abusing him. And was completely uncalled for, unlike other incidents of booing players. It really was an embarrassingly poor performance for him in the end though, he looked totally out of confidence. I'm fine with trying to undermine that, but just abusing him as a person, not a player, will hardly do that will it?
The fans going much further is one of the reasons I don't watch football (along with the product). Went to a Latics match with a friend a few years back, the home fans just spent the match picking out members of the visiting crowd and abusing them. So much fun probably because there wasn't anything to watch on the field...

Suppose it doesn't work that way? Suppose it galvanises the crap out of the player in question, to the point where he is more determined than ever to punish you? Would it be a sensible policy then?
Didn't happen that way last night, I admit ... but let's not kid ourselves, Hull's heavy defeat was nothing to do with the efforts of the Brigantes.
I just find that whole mob mentality, which I associate far more with football crowds (and Wire), pathetic.
