| Completely agree the rfl should be using these guys to help market the game. Get them advertising the world cup and bung them as many free tickets as they want. I'm sure there's even more celeb RL lovers out there we could tap up...

| RL can't just whore itself out to footyballers though, i have no problem with them liking it and coming to games as long as they pay their way and bring their equally rich buddies!
Don't give them free tickets when they could afford to pay a squad players wages for X amount of years in one month.

| It has bothered me for over 40 years how this game, which is without doubt the greatest, has never been able to expand. I think there are several reasons, for example we have terrible administrators, but I think our main problem is profile, or should I say lack of. To that end I believe we should use the very high profile famous fans to promote our big televised matches,CC, Grand Final etc, other sports shamelessly use this tactic with a far inferior product.

For a brief time in the early 90s we had quite a high profile. The likes of Hanley, Edwards, Offiah and Davies were household names. Wembley got filled to the brim for GB v Aus matches.
We either marketed things better then as a game, or had more 'big names' with which to entice the public, or both. But a few years later, when the emphasis seemed to be on stopping - not just Wigan, but any club - from becoming a dominant force again, at any cost, we lost a lot of that wider romance.

| I would argue that a few tweets from professional sportsmen this weekend has reached out to more people and raised more brand awareness about Wigan RLFC and RL in general than twelve Stobart lorries knocking about the motorways every now and again.
Great deal that...not!

Spot on.
Rugby league is such an easy sell, to say the RFL have been a disaster over the last few years would be an understatement. I sometimes can't actually believe what they are doing, and even worse how they justify the games 'progress'.

I'm a firm believer that if you can get a number of high profile and influencial people not only backing, but enthusiatically pushing your product to the masses then you are on to a winner. It certainly works in business (Networking breakfasts..etc) and it can work in sport via social media.

| You only have to look at the success of Nandos to see what an effect celebrity endorsement can have on a product.
Rio has an audience of almost 3 million on twitter.
It stands to reason that if he shows an interest in our sport then so will they.
The fact that the RFL don't take more advantage of things like this continues to astound me.

| If only 10 people follow rugby league from one little tweet, then great, don't see the harm in it, anything positive about our game in any form of media is good with me, but you guys stick with Rio and we'll have Psycho.

Great point.
The way people go on you'd think it was michelin star dining you were getting rather then a glorified KFC with better quality tables and proper knifes and forks.
It's as overrated as Sir Kevin Sinfield.
