You'd think Wigan fans of all people wouldn't perpetrate that particular urban myth. For all Noble's fault about holding back youngsters, Sam played more than Smith that season before Smith got injured.

Sam was playing pretty regularly that season [His SL debut had been against London earlier in the year where he set up the match winning try]

True. A worse failing was in the 2008 season, when Sam scored 5 tries on debut and wasn't seen again that year.

| If we are allowed to venture into the pre-Super League era, I'd like to nominate Jimmy Birts.

| Dennis Moran is one of the biggest scapegoats Wigan has had in the SL era but I do feel that the criticism he received should of be directed to the coaching staff at the time and not just the player in question.
Lets not forget that Moran was a wonderful player at London, a terrific support player who knew his way to the try line and a player who was recommended to Wigan by the player he replaced - Adrian Lam, who has gone on record as saying that Moran was one of the most gifted player he has played against in SL.

Used to be an exponent of rubbing the attacking player head after a tackle.
Was ok before his hard man aura was smashed by Barrie Mac, absolute poop after it.

[quote="headhunter":lnxdgxk2]Union people are idiots. They almost universally accept that league is a better, faster game played by better athletes, yet for some reason they continue to disregard and belittle it. That game is tedious as hell from start to finish. If he'd ever played or even bothered to give more than a fleeting chance to league he would realise that the game is far more 'technical' than Union ever could be. Booting the ball into touch, scrummaging and forming rucks and mauls aren't areas that involve any skill, technique or mental capacity whatsoever. These are clumsy, outdated facets of the game that are also extremely uninteresting to watch and thus have to be defended in some way by people who are too prejudiced to see the truth.[/quote:lnxdgxk2]: |

Jonkers yes - but actually thought Liam Botham was a pretty decent player – Never set the world alight and was not normal Wigan standard but he did a massive and underrated job in just doing the basics right at a time we were crying out for it, in the same way Nathan Macavoy did - Both did a lot of unnoticed work imo which helped massively drag us out of the mess we were in! Still baffling to think of some of the signings that season though…makes you question whether millward was actually trying to see us down as saints fans joked about!
For the record IMO the worst wigan team I have watched would be as follows;
1. Doc Murray
2. Desi Williams
3. Jamie Ainscough
4. Paul Koloi
5. Wes Davies
6. Greg Florimo
7. Denis Moran
8. Lee Hanson
9. Mark Reber
10. Jordan James
11. Oliver Wilkes
12. Stuart Lester
13. Tim Jonkers
--------------------------
14. Ricky Bibey
15. Richie Mathers
16. Karl Pryce
17. Shem Tatupu
Thank god they never all got to play together!!
