I would imagine Sam will do the kicking as he was doing it last year when Pat was still out injured and kicked one at Bradford when Pat was getting his breath back. Charnley can kick but has never as far as I can remember been asked to kick for the first team (and when he was in the under 20s Josh Veivers took the goalkicks most of the time). O'Loughlin may have a go if a couple of players have had a go and are doing poorly. I don't think anyone else in the squad would be likely to have a go.

| It will probably be either Sam or Charnley. I'm sure the last time Pat was missing they had a goalkicking shootout to find out who was going to be the kicker.
Chris Tuson and Logan Tomkins have both kicked a single goal for the under 20's, just in case we really get desperate

| Charley kicked a few last year and IMO he was a better goal kicker than Sam.

| I'd give it to Charnley. He looked a pretty talented option when I seen him have a go last year.
As for the team i've been on holiday for the past couple of weeks so it's tough to make a call. I can't see Hughes being moved from the centres so I reckon-
Tomkins
Charnley
Goulding
Hughes
Russell
Mellor
Finch
Mossop
McIlorum
Lima
Hansen
Hock
O'Loughlin
subs
Lauaki
Spencer
Tuson
Farrell
Gelling and Logan Tomkins to miss out for me.

| Don't see the point in shifting guys like Lockers and Goulding around when we have perfectly able lads available to play in their usual positions with Mellor at halfback and Russell on the wing (played quite a bit of wing as well as fullback).

| I'm sure Russell was given under 20's player of the year a couple of season's ago while playing mostly on the wing so he should do alright there. I've not really seen how he is in the air though and Widnes might see cross field kicks as a good way to break down the defence.
At the end of the day though these young players need to be given an opportunity and the game against the bottom club is the most sensible time to do it as it stands to reason that it provides the best chance of winning with a weakened team.
Should we actually end up losing then it doesn't really matter. It will just highlight important areas that need to be worked on and it's better to find them out now than later on. This early in the season no loss is a bad loss; it's all a learning curve.

Exactly. If players are to be rested then lets not compound the issue by playing others out of position. Goulding needs to stay in the centre as he tries to make the position his own and form the umpteenth time Lockers is never a 6 so simply replace the rested players like for like. If it doesn't pan out in the halfs the Sam can move up, not Lockers.

Well said. It is up to the newcomers to fit into the team, not established players being juggled around to accomodate them and thus causing many more changes than necessary. If Gelling is to start he should be on the wing, and from what I have seen of him defensively this would be his best position for an introduction to SL anyway.
