I remember a big mobile phone boom in wigan in about 2005, loads of 075 numbers knocking about

These postcodes can be quite confusing,so to stop the confusion at St Helens on match day the postcode as been changed to the following (especially when it is windy,it is a combination of letters and numbers.
OH DEAR 999 OH DEAR.
Just a bit of fun my Saints friends,in nearly 60 years of watching Wigan I have allways felt more welcome at Saints that any other ground.
My sense of humour can get the better of me at times, plus 4 pints of mild (the strong stuff) helps it.

Who cares about the High School your sons/daughters go to? Frankly it's about as difficult to get an A grade at GC (Easy) SE as it is to put on a hat.
Just make sure they get into Winstanley College. Surely the best A Level College in Wigan?

But a school for borderline pupils. If the kids aren't quite at the level they wantthen they don't want to know. We were lucky but I know of quite a few who weren't.
John Rigby is a more "caring" college.
I've had kids/grandkids go to both.

Rofl.
That's the point (or should be) of schools. Those with the ability go to Uni, (and I mean proper Uni, not "University" of Wigan) . Not everyone can be a brain surgeon.
John Rigby was always an "Ok" place to go. Not in the same league as Winstanley, but then again it never pretended to be.

and John Rigby has a lower entrance qualification (ie points based on A level results) than Winstanley...so it follows that Winstanley get the brainier pupils, but not neccisarily the better ones

If I had the choice I would send my kids (from experience) to John Rigby regardless of how "bright" they were. If they had the ability it wouldn't matter, they would still go to Uni.
I have had two who went to John Rigby and one to Winstanley. One of the ones who went to John Rigby has done as well if not better than the one who went to Winstanley, and is certainly better rounded. (both went to Uni) and has more common sense.
The other one is a daft lad who we all love on here, but he's happy.
Just to put into perspective, the one who went to Winstanley advised her niece (my grandaughter) to go to John Rigby.

I went to Winstanley and if it wasn't for the fact I met my girlfriend there I would go back and choose John Rigby if I could.
Winstanley was awful. They tried to get a friend of mine to leave college because she wasn't on course for a C grade in 2 of her subjects and they wanted to get 100% A-C grades.
Hated the place as did others that I know yet I don't know anyone who wasn't happy at John Rigby.

Well it's between there and John Rigby as Wigan have moved all their A-levels to Leigh. Ten years ago Wigan was miles ahead of Winstanley in Geography, Geology and Environmental studies at least.
Is Winstanley still the higher education choice of the pushy middle-class parent?

Now come on!
Ok cards on the table I went to Winstanley.
Reason? - it was the best college in Wigan.
All things considered, I am led to believe it remains that way.
I have family who go to Winstanley, and also who go to John Rigby. Suffice to say those who go to Winstanley had the choice to go anywhere.....those who go to JR................maybe not.
To call it the choice of the "Middle Class parent" is laughable. Didn't you know we are "all middle class now"? rofl.
I am a firm believer in the fact that way too many students go to A Levels and "University" nowdays.
Do you really need a degree to be a plumber? etc

The nr Warrington is a myth. It's just warrington. Yet everyone in lowton knows it's actually Wigan.
