| Quote: Grimmy "
What I don't understand is why they never took the chance to debut any of Powell, Mellor or Logan last year against the lower placed sides. It was obvious at least one of them would be needed to replace Deacon. We can't have McIlorum playing 80 every match, and sticking Lockers at 6 so Leuluai can give McIlorum a breather is far from ideal. Hopefully one of them will prove to be good enough to make the 17. Having said that, I would still rather us have signed a half/hooker instead of Lauaki, or just kept O'Carroll.'"
There was a revealing comment in one of the interviews with SW when he said that it was obvious that Madge was here for the short term & was focussed on the senior squad only - or words to that effect. That maybe explains why no-one, with the exception of Charnley, got any sort of a decent run in the side last year. Certainly don't want to be critical of MM given what he delivered, but the time is right to take a more long-term view.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever

That is my point exactly, it is not as big a step backwards as some people may think. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see this guy perform just as well as Joel did at centre.

| Quote: DaveO "But that is explicitly not what IL and Wane have said is going to happen.
When Wane was announced as coach just a few weeks ago the talk from both of them was about improving on last season not taking a step back. IL expects Wigan to be in at least one final every season and he is looking for the team to improve from last season. Wane was saying he felt the team should be more consistent (he was referring to too many drawn games I think) and that this was one of his aims.
He is going to do extremely well as a coach if he manages to do that and satisfy IL's ambition given who we have lost and who we have recruited.
'"
And how would you have faced the press, Dave? By announcing that, since the unexpected departure of Joel, things are now going to be tough and we probably won't do as well as we have.
That would have them flocking to buy season tickets, wouldn't it?
You have a lot of opinions, Dave, some I agree with but some of which make me very glad that you're not our CEO.

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.
For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.
Wigan had eight in a row

| Cruncher, I agree.
I don't think PR is one of DaveOs strong points.

Spot on, no point reading into comments like that anyway. Coaches usually look at the positives, what else are they really going to say? What else is a player signing for us going to say other than... 'I'm happy to be signing for this great club'... whether they believe it or not is not the point.

That is not to knock these players. The 18 year old sounds a very promising addition to the squad but I don't see any of them as being players to replace the likes of Joel, Coley and a solution in 2012 to the centre problem.'"
Looking at our squad compared to the other challengers im confident we will be right in there at the business end again. Leeds 5th and winning the GF shows you dont even have to have that good a regular season to be champions.
Finishing 8th and winning the GF would be an improvement on last season so i wouldnt rule anything out.

| I really dont people see how we are taking a step backwards to be honest, I was thinking of our potential first choice 17 next year and if it is not right up there with Warrington and Saints I will be suprised. We could potentially line up with
1. Sam Tomkins
2. Josh Charnley
3. Anthony Gelling
4. George Carmont
5. Pat Richards
6. Brett Finch
7. Tommy Leuluai
8. Lee Mossop
9. Mike McIllorum
10. Jeff Lima
11. Harrison Hansen
12. Liam Farrell
13. Sean O'Loughlin
14. Gareth Hock
15. Paul Prescott
16. Stuart Fielden
17. Joe Mellor
with players such as Amos Roberts, Ryan King, Stefan Marsh, Darrell Goulding, Matty Russell, Sam Powell, Logan Tomkins, Gil Dudson, Ben Flower, Epalahame Laukai, Chris Tuson, Dom Crosby we can be very very confident of success. Our squad depth is as strong as last year. We will be up there yet again next year definately!

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |
|
| I reckon Dudson will the player to watch out for in 2013, 2012 will just settle in but will be decent but he has massive potential.
