I guess because he's not that experienced and doesn't really have a track record of success. I would have expected Wigan to appoint an assistant with more experience if as expected Wane gets the top job. I suppose people need to get a crack at a top job at some point though.

My view on that is that surely in that scenario, Wane would be the problem in terms of lack of experience. I feel as though if your an "experienced" coach in rugby league, and your willing to be an assistant, you can't be that good to begin with (narrow minded I know, but the dire quality of British coaches in particular means that its unlikely you'll get someone decent).
Wane would ideally be more experienced, but aside from that, I still fail to see a better potential candidate than Harris. The reason people are saying they don't want him isn't because of his coaching credentials, it's because he hasn't had any connection to the Wigan club. In an ideal world someone like Lam would be great but I thought it was nigh on impossible to get a visa for an assistants job.

Didn't go straight onto Lam our coaching staff when he stopped playing?
Anyway, I don't get this "Wane is too inexperienced" talk. He's been at the club coaching the kids (half of whom are in the first team now) for donkeys and worked his way up to be assistant to madge for the past two seasons. For me he's the only logical choice if we want to continue the culture and philiosophies that's been developed at the club since Maguire arrived. Promote from within

| Sorry to appear a little slow, but what role does Kris have, we see him pitch side every game, receiving and giving instruction. How is his role affected?

Exactly. Wane served a long coaching apprenticeship at Wigan as coach for the U21 (or is U20 whatever it was when was doing it!) and has spent two years under Madge. The contrast with Harris who got an assistants job at the Crusaders out of nowhere largely because he was Welsh IMO on the back of zero coaching experience and then got chucked in the deep end when Noble left the Crusaders could not be greater. He's just not got the experience.

And that is a culture Harris will not have and so the assistant should be whoever Wane wants it to be and I can't believe that would be Harris.

exactly..."promotion from within"
thats why Liverpool were so succesful for years...paisley, fagan, moran, dalgleish.
it helps a lot when the new manager/coach knows the ins and outs of the club and its culture

His official title is General Rugby Manager so he is heavily involved in the managerial side of the club but not on the coaching. He is a kind of link between the board and the players/coaching staff.
He's staying on as his current role but he has said he doesn't want to go into coaching - he would rather go on to become a member of the board and have a directing role at the club.

| I hope Wane gets it, but given IL's track record so far I'm confident he'll make the right choice, and he's in a better position to make the correct decision than any of us.
