| Whoever is to blame the right side needs sorting out. I have said repeatedly Wire would attack the right side as St, George did. I don't think anyone needs a crystal ball to predict that is what any top side will do against us.
However lets leave that to the coaches to sort out for now and congratulate Charley for his tries particularly the length of the field effort. The BBC highlight of that is worth watching as it shows it head on and the step he gave to leave Hodgson for dead was superb.

So you don't notice the frequent mistakes by Deacon then, or you choose to ignore them? Why do you think teams keep getting an overlap? It's not the centre or winger who is responsible for that, it happens further in field. Whether Joel is a centre or not he's not done too badly and neither has Charnley. It isn't their fault that they constantly have to deal with overlaps.
Too many times Deacon falls for the dummy runner, taking the wrong man and is too slow to cover across meaning both Tomkins and Charnley have to stay tighter for longer, which just means they have a man over on the edge. Every single team attempts to target Deacon and Wire did it all day today and got some reward for it.

| I disagree Cherry.
Charnley needs to learn to stay out on his wing (in fairness he got the message after half time)
I think Maguire knows JT is not a centre, but what can he do given the Gleeson situation?

| How is it nobody has mentioned coley missing an obvious runner (Hodgson for example) which led to a wire try? Charnley got dragged in but only because of mistakes inside him. Joel is improving every game at centre and was up against a good un today in Atkins. 3 times his defence led to Wire beinfmg dragged into touch. I thought he was really string.

| Hock played on the right hand side of defence today which is not his normal area.
Charnley was at fault for the 2 tries in my opinion.
The first one Joel was already in position to tackle Atkins, with cover coming from behind in Sam Tomkins. There was no need to take Atkins and leave King wide open.
The other try, Hodgson was almost on the floor when he offloaded - with Joel on top of him. There was again no need to come inside to tackle a grounded man and leave King again, wide open.
It's just a learning experience, but for the 2 tries we conceded, he scored 2 tries.
Great team performance, its just the lack of experience on our right hand side that is our weak point at the moment.
Fantastic match to watch. Cracking spectacle.

| Dropping Charnley should not be an option, he will learn in time IF he continues to get experience. He came in too often in the 1st half, learnt the lesson and didn't in the second. An example of a player learning the lesson and adapting/developing his game.
He'll be a top winger in a couple of years if he's kept there.

| Quote: I was pleased for him scoring the tries, "Wigan coach Michael Maguire praised Josh Charnley after the youngster's late double at Warrington sent his side into the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-finals.
The 19-year-old winger made the decisive contribution as Wigan, having been pegged back to 22-20 after leading 22-0, emerged 44-24 winners in a 13-try thriller at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Warrington, cup winners for the past two years, had exploited Charnley's flank in their stunning fightback but his impressive recovery included a brilliant length-of-the-field score.
"I was pleased for him scoring the tries," said Maguire of a player who had loan spells at Blackpool and Hull KR last season.
"He got caught out a couple of times but that was in the first half and in the second half he did his job.
"For a kid like that to bounce back and come up with a try like that, it is an outstanding effort."'"

| Defensive positioning can be coached but the ability to score that 2nd try can't!
Awesome stuff from a terrific young player.

| Quote: Cherry.Pie "Those blaming Joel Tomkins and Josh Charnley are way off. It's Deacon who is the weak link and the one who takes the wrong option or is too slow to slide across. Luckily Deacon is bloody good with ball in hand but defensively he's poor and teams always target him just as Wire did today.'"
Cherry I could not agree more, going forward ball in hand Deacon can confuse the opposistion when they dont know if he is going to pass or kick.
Today though Wigan were found out a couple of times ,once when the Wire went wide for the first try he was so slow getting across. Then when Monaghan (hooker ) broke through he gave up the chase very quickly. Please watch the reply.
I have been on about this all season, one slow halfback you may get away with but two you are pushing your luck.

| Watched it again and I think it is. 50 50 if Charnley was at fault for the first try as Joel had been beaten and I think Josh had no option but to try and tackle the man with the ball but I don 't think you could be 100% certain. The second try he was definitely out of position. He was about 10m off his wing and left a huge gap.
Hopefully the coaches will sort him out as he looks really strong in the other aspects of the game.

THIS .... said more or less this on the way home after the game, plus his try was really good

| Josh is going to become a key figure for us for years to come, longer term I still want to see him given a go in the centres, possibly with Roberts outside him next season?
Joel for me will never be a centre, but is doing everything we could ask of him currently.
For those wanting Josh dropped, what do they propose we do, play Goulding, who would have made the same defensive mistakes without the length of the field try to make up for it?!

| Joel may not be a centre, but having watched the game again his problems certainly aren't with his defence. He was up against a dangerous centre-wing partnership and he was excellent. It's his attack which is letting him down, because he just doesn't attack like a centre should. Perhaps that's more to do with the way Wigan attack though, because Gleeson was never a consistent attacking threat either, although showed moments of good attacking play (as has Tomkins).
