| Quote: The Ginger Pearl "McIlorum is never a hooker for me. Absolute terrible in attack but his defence is world class. He would be awesome in the second row but his distribution and decision making is just not good enough for him to be the only recognised hooker in a champion side. Its a massive weakness for us at the minute. Imagine how good we'd be with Roby or Monaghan.'"
To say he is terrible in attack is a complete exaggeration. As soon as he has an off night the knives are out for him I seems.
What this season has shown me is you really do need two hookers to rotate. Recently when TL has shared the hooking not only do the team look better but so does McIlorum. He comes on and can be a real live wire around the ruck which he can't do if he has to play 80 mins. I would even go as far as saying he has been the better of the two in at least one of the home games recently when it was TL's turn to have a quiet night but he was only able to do that because he wasn't expected to play the full 80.
If MM & TL are our hookers next season that is the least of our problems IMO.

| If McIlorum was as good as he thinks he is he would be mediocre. Until we get a World class hooker to share the job with Tommy, we will never be a great team. Hate Sent Ellins but could you imagine Roby in our present squad, we would be awesome. This is not a reflection of tonight's game, just don't rate him anything above moderate

Disagree.
Roby is another Higham (admittedly much better). If you said Michael Monaghan or Cameron Smith I would have agreed with you.

Utter tosh!! Fair enough he had a bit of an off night tonight with the ball in hand but he wasnt the only one in horrid conditions. He's been one of our most consistent performers and gets us round the park effectively. It works better when he is spelled with Tommy but that wasnt an option tonight. Whenever he has an off game we get all this "he's not a hooker" rubbish, despite approaching 100 SL appearances in that position at the age of 23 and getting capped for England earlier this year.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate

the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever

Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go

Knifes arent out for McIlorum just because hes had an off night, I've never rated him and I cant see anything in him (other than his defence) as to why people think hes so good? He constantly makes the wrong decision. I've lost count of the amount of times this year that he has tried the Kieron Cunningham barge over try and failed every single time. Its a waste of a tackle.
FWIW im not saying we should get rid of him - I think he would make an excellent back rower & his defence is worth him being on the pitch any time, i just feel so uncomfortable with the fact that hes the one whos supposed to guide everyone round the pitch and make decisions he just isnt capable of.

When you say you have never rated him you make it sound like he was 33 and not 23. Sam takes plenty of wrong options but is given the benefit of the doubt and rightly so. Not sure why MM doesn't get the same leeway. It seems he has to be the finished article and as good as someone like Buderous or Piggy when nearly 10 years younger than some.
I would have thought MM's Grand Final performance would have silenced his critics at least to some degree but apparently not. He's not the worlds greatest hooker but neither is he as poor as you make out and time is on his side.

You're not sure why MM isnt given the same leeway as Sam when it comes to decision making? Probably because Sam makes up with the wrong decisions he makes with absolutely spectacular plays of Rugby League, When has McIlorum ever done anything remotely like Sam has which would make fans give him leeway for always making wrong decisions?
Whats wrong with me saying i never rated him even though he is 23? He made his first team debut in 2007, thats 4 seasons ago, when would you like me to decide whether I think he is good enough to make it at Wigan? When he's 33?
Yeah he's had one good game in the Grand Final good for him, do you think thats good enough? Are any of his other perforances on par with the GF performance?
Let me ask you this - if he was born in Sydney, would you want him at Wigan?
Anyway i've had my say on this, i think he is a very good defender but never a hooker in a million years, I would keep him at Wigan but not as a hooker. We need to sign a hooker for next year.
Thats the last i'll say on this with you because i've noticed you always get into debates with other users and never change your opinion no matter how wrong you are, always seem to get dragged into arguments, which is strange for a mod
