How good was George tonight! He was the best outside back on the field and again proved his worth.
He simply has to stay. We can't let him leave.

| Good. He is very over-rated.
Reminds me heavily of Richie Myler.

Absolutely nothing like him imo. A while back Ratchford looked like he could develop into a decent organising stand off, Myler was only ever a good support player. Signing Ratchford at centre is a waste as far as I can see though, no idea why Salford are playing him there, he should have carried on in the middle.

They have very little of their own compared to the other big clubs and just buy their main players from other clubs, surely someone in the RFL must have raised eyebrows about it.'"
One could also ask how Wigan managed to fit in 3 players from was at the time the best team in the NRL.
Lucky that I have a brain.

because we released 3 players, 2 of who were reported to be very high earners.

Which is similar to what Wire are doing, although Ratchford wouldn't cost them much. Not hard to see to be honest.
And for us it was a 4-3 switch, which is (I assume) why we could afford 3 players from the best NRL team short and medium term.

| If Ratchford moves to Warrington it will be as a full-back to take over the "third" half-back role that Hodgson has played this season.

Interesting.
Would see 2 of the better teams in the league going for a Full Back with a greater attacking impetus than a defensive one.

It is exactly what Hodgson is doing at Warrington already and no doubt one of the reasons that Hodgson was brought in to replace Mathers. I know that Wigan fans will slate Mathers full-stop but that just seems a bad mix as he was a great signing for the Wire. However Hodgson has took our attack to another level this year with his link play and better choice and quality of pass than Mathers offered.
The number of tries that Warrington have scored via the combination of Monaghan at acting half to Myler as first receiver on to Briers who feeds Hodgson chiming into the line for Hodgson to either run through the gap or feed the outside backs for them to score is un-real. Ratchford will slip seemlessly into that role.
Still means that we will need to replace Briers at stand-off at some stage in the next couple of years and as things currently stand I'd imagine we would move for Chase before his contract is up at Castleford (he'll want to move to a club that can win things if his form continues) and therefore pay a transfer fee which no other club will be willing to match.

I should of explained a little more. Reminds me of Myler because of his being built up by the muppets at Sky into something he simply isn't - Quality.

Indeed, I think we all knew the answer, it was just the same logic for each of our teams.

That makes more sense, I should have picked up on that, sorry. I disagree, I feel Ratchford will turn out to be a good player, maybe not international standard, but nor will Myler unless he starts adding to his game - which he has basically failed to do throughout his time at SL, and not having to bother as Briers does his job for him at Wire.
The idea of Ratchford at fullback is an interesting one for me, he'd be a completely different style of attacking fb than Sam, which could work in a team like Warrington if they can sustain the powerful threequarters for strike. He'd probably set up a lot of tries from there.

| Ratchford is a little bit of a conundrum. Shows promise wherever he plays but never really kicks on. He's got a fantastic kicking game, a fine set of hands and good speed, but he still looks far too lightweight!!! If he leaves Salford and starts to play behind a better pack, he might finally get the chance to produce some consistency. He could be a very good centre, just what England are crying out for, but he isn't getting enough service at Salford. When given a little time and space, he's probably the most elusive centres you'll find to replace Carmont.
Or maybe he looks good against lesser teams and can't step up when the big boys pitch up.
