I do agree that the choices he makes in attack are very poor. Defence wise I feel he is sound. Not sure who is supposed to go there though? Goulding maybe?

| Finch looked good tonight. He throw some lovely long passes, which enabled our outside backs to get around their opposites.
I think it's a case now of ensuring that as the season reaches it's climax, the team don't just play well in spells, but actually put it together for the fully eighty. We play some brilliant stuff at times, but we do switch off now and then. It's not as if we don't play well, and all us Wigan fans are hoping for a miracle turn round in form. Because that's clearly not the case. When were hot were hot, and to be honest when off the boil were still pretty damn warm. We just need consistency within the eighty minutes and we'll be reet.

I think we'll need to keep him there for this season. However the point you make about his decision-making on attack is the key one for me and why we need to recruit two centres for next season.

| Enjoyed the match tonight. We probably should have scored more points in the first half but in the second the attack was spot on and we scored some real quality tries, Carmonts being the standout ( I think it was Carmonts, with the pass from Sam to Joel?). Ok Hull KR had limited fit subs but I thought our defence was quality personally, they would have scored more than 6 points against most other teams. KR had a lot of sets inside our ten and yet only got across the line once, that was good solid defence against the likes of Dobson and Green, two quality players.
I thought Finch had a good game, I've slated him in the past when he had some bad performances (only his perfomance mind, no doubt he's a quality player), he threw some fantastic passes and it was a great pass from him that made one of the tries in the first half, he also put in some big hits in defence. Sam had a great game, had me shouting PASS once or twice mind, and Pat had a good game (as always!). George Carmont is absolute quality, a fantastic player that keeps putting in great performances in defense and attack, he will be a huge loss! Our left hand side is amazing imo, in both attack and defence I don't think there is a better combination of players in super league than Hoffman, Carmont and Pat. Good peformance from the forwards making the hard yards, Paul Prescott isn't slow when he gets going but I don't see him passing again if he makes a break!
Also on the subject of Joel, thought he played well at centre today, being dragged into touch wasn't ideal, but you can't drag, can you? I actually thought he stayed away from the touchline better today, apart from that once, and even then he wasn't that close to the touchline.

indeed, looks like he is going to get dumped into touch every time, and its never a suprise when he is put over the sidelines

| It was very good to watch for the most part and some very nice tries scored but even though we made our own luck (i.e. it wasn't down to HKR being a poor side) we did end up dominating the game so it's hard to draw meaningful conclusions.
Playing Sam T at full back is someting we can afford in games like that. He had little to do in defence, but I don't think it works against top teams and I still think we'd be even better attach-wise with him at 6.
As to the game itself this is one of those games we might have lost a couple of seasons ago so it has to be good to put them away scoring 40. We have the luxury of commenting on Joel in the centres and Sam at FB so there is not a lot wrong is there!

I quite agree we will need two centres. At the moment I think Joel is our best option there given his solid defence. I presume Hoffman will be departing in the off-season, thus opening a spot for Tomkins to fill in the 2nd row.
Two centres to recruit is an interesting proposition.

I think you underestimate the influence of Deacon and Finch in the halves tonight. In particular, when Wigan play with Deacon we look a much more dangerous team.

I'd play Charnley there and bring Amos Roberts back but that's just me. Daryll Goulding and Ryan King are additional 3/4 options.
Joel will play there for the whole of this season though.

I think Joel's combination of size and speed terrifies his opposing #. He's getting better at centre each and every game.
I'd look to recruit one centre and keep J. Tomkins at the other next year.
We always complain about how much bigger the Aussie centres are. Well here's our chance to match them.

| Had a trip around the boards tonight.
Loving the fact that the usual suspects are spewing about two of our tries.

Mentioning no names but one particular board has a 10 page thread on our game tonight, which is bigger than anything they had on their own victory this weekend.

Size isn't anything (not that it's a problem for me you understand)
I actually think Joel is wasted in the centre and anyway he'd generally play one inside from where he is at the moment. I just don't think he has a long term future their given my doubt about his decision making - back-up yes but if we pin our hope on him long term we'll be a very left sided focused team in terms of scoring. Is it just me or have our tries dried up on lot recently on the right?

Perhaps so, but I think the lack of tries on the right of late is down to Richards' return and Gleeson's absence personally.
Joel's doing a decent job, but Gleeson was a different gravy as a Centre.

| The link up between Sam and Joel for Carmonts try was world class.
Simple inside ball maybe, but it was timed to perfection. Effective.
On another note, Finchy found a few cracking passes tonight, another improvement for him
