1) The club shop in the Grand Arcade. Are we getting decent returns on that investment.
2) Has the Stadium been signed over to Wigan Athletic, and if so are there any repercussions for Wigan RL.
3) What has happened to youth recruitment? The U18's look particularly weak this year. Do we need to expand our scouting systems to look at other young sportsmen. i.e Athletics, basketball, football, Athletics etc.'"
Rogues - What's behind question 1? It seems an odd question for a fan to ask. The reason I ask is that I have been disappointed with the shop and the lack of choice. I have been in a few times to buy polo shirts but there is not much of a choice and when you ask the staff they just say "if it isnt on display we havent got it in the size you want!"
On Q3 a mate of mine who is invlolved at Widnes reckons the scouting system at Wigan has gone to pot as they are signing some low quality players.

| The shop in the arcade is pretty poor. Ive been in a couple of times trying to spend cash but never seem to come out with anything due to the distinct lack of choice/stock.
If we want to increase merchandise we need to get a decent shop at the ground on matchdays imo. When people go to the match I reckon they are more likely to spend a few quid on merchandise etc. For fans who live further away this is also better as buying off the online shop isnt always feasible with the awkward sizes for some things. Its a pain when you buy something online then have to send it back.

These things are pretty much a PR exercise and ground rules are set out from the off about what can and can't be asked but with the addition of some inane questioning they can become quite tedious affairs for me.'"
Especially when you see quotes likeWigan are on the lookout for a coach after Michael Maguire enacted a clause in his contract that allowed him to join South Sydney next season.'"

To be honest I don't know why IL has a FF if (judging by some of the contributors) a number of fans turn up and ask innane questions. At the end of the day its all about the performance on the pitch, which to be frank has been very good so far. Almost all of us are paying customers and not shareholders so why do we need to know if we are getting a good return on the shop? If its making a return then great, if not the Board will make a decision on keeping it open or closing it. The issue of the ground share is also an issue for the Board. Does anyone think that IL is stupid enough not to protect his investment in Wigan and not have got legally binding assurances on the issue of the stadium?. As another contributor said, the issue of the youngsters has been addressed by ML. At the moment they are not coming through but they will. its part of the cycle.
Sometimes I think we need to be told less rather than more and the Gleeson episode was a case in point.

Whether you like it or not, it's not all about performance on the pitch. The club is a business, and has to be run as such.
There's more to the youngsters coming through than they are not good enough. Wigan have been outbid for quite a number to my knowledge.

He can't officially sign, but the fact he's back training with the Club ought to leave no-one in any doubt as to what he'll be doing at 9am on the 23rd June 2011.

The fans are ultimately interested in performance on the pitch and that's what really counts with all sports teams. Good performance means that good players are attracted to the club. Of course the Board run the club as a business for the benefit of the shareholders under proper (we hope) financial and other corporate governance procedures. IL has got his head screwed on and the backroom team and set up is as good as it has been in years. If youngsters go elsewhere, then so be it, it is a free market and their career is a short one.

Its wht certain players are at wire i cant name names for legal reasons but it was the backlash of mls setup with wages in the past think thats ok now but some are still going wire more money still there somehow.
Partly to do with studies too wigan want them as ft players sooner apparently so they choose another team.

Interesting point...however not sure its how all clubs look at things....Simon Moran at wire for example has demonstrated he is prepared to back the team out of his own pocket.... beyond the operating income of the club.
I know IL has done this too...to some extent...but his philosophy is very much centred around the principle that the club should be run as a business with the P&L account driving the decisions.
It's a sport, and whilst he is custodian of our great club I expect him to invest perosnally, or source backers to help out.. when needed.
