| I had a debate with a St.Helen's journalist on twitter last night because he read this story he seem s to think that wrestling has only just been introduced into the game the last few seasons and it slows the game down and he also said it was dangerous
So i said to him it might be dangerous if not performed correctly i also said that wrestling coaches have been at every club for more than 10 yrs , And if it slows the PTB down that much how come wigan was the highest point scorers last season which he never replied again

Give over. I worked alongside Andy Wilson in the press box for two years straight and I can assure you that - with the possible exception of Bill Arthur (who lives and breathes the club) - there is no bigger fan of Wigan working among the RL press. I remember standing in the elevator with him after Wigan's CCF loss at the Millennium and the guy was practically weeping.
We can debate the validity of the article forever, but don't try to convince me Wilson has an anti-Wigan agenda. If he does we might as well say every journo has it in for the club.

| What a load of rubbish. If a player had suffered injury due to our tackling technique he may have a very slight point but as far as i know no player has ever been injured nor have our players ever gone out to deliberately injure a player.
What the hell has this game come to when aggressive defence is frowned upon!

| Its amazing that a Wigan title win is the result of cheating and using dubious tactics aimed at injuring players. For a number of seasons Wigan have been too easily bullied by bigger more aggresive packs, it still happens this year the Wire and Catalans game are perfect examples. On form the Wigan pack are a match for anyone due to their workrate and willigness to help each other.

| What is sad about the article is if Wilson or his editor want a negative story about RL involving tackling techniques and how the RFL view them and punish Wigan (well Lima...) there is a better one to be written. And that is, does the evidence show that the RFL are unduly influenced by outburst from the likes of Kear and other coaches and are these outbursts justified?
Are chicken wing tackles going unpunished when other teams do them? Did he miss the fact IL said he would not appeal Lima's first ban because he felt the "ban - appeal - ban reduced" merry go round he saw in 2010 was expected to have been done away with in 2011? Then a few weeks later Wigan appeal Joel's ban which IMO given it followed on from IL's previous comment, was a resounding vote of no confidence in the system as much as anything.
The amount of negative comment that goes on at the moment from sub-standard coaches like Kear and Agar ought to see them done for bringing the game into disrepute. Even if they were right the press is the wrong place to air these views. Unless of course they feel it is an effective way to gain an advantage which if so, says a lot about the limp wristed people in charge at the RFL.

| This is pathetic. What are we complaining about here -
1 - Wrestling? Last year Wigan's strength was for 2 men to hold the tackler for a few seconds and then take him to the floor, giving our defence time to set. A 3rd man might or might not get involved, usually taking the legs. Those 2 or 3 men then peel off one at a time, taking up more time. For me, good discipline and a well drilled team, certainly not illegal. Less knowledgeable people were calling it 'lying on'. And it's certainly not just Wigan, but Wigan did it the best.
2 - Attacking the joints? I'll admit I've spotted one or two holding ankles or wrists, but not for a while, and it's not just Wigan - and how much damage can that really do? Is there any evidence of anything worse and has anyone actually been injured? Is it worse than elbows in the face or hands on the back of the neck on the floor, or other tricks we all know go on in the tackle? Probably not.
3 - Aggression in defence? Shouldn't we be applauding a team that's motivated and fit enough to maintain a high level of disciplined aggression for 80 minutes? God knows we'll need that against the Aussies.
It's up to the rest to figure out how to counteract successful tactics - oh hang on, they've done that by crying to the wet RFL and getting the goalposts shifted. Well done.

| Storm in a teacup, this story. Must have been a quiet day on the RL news desk.
ATEOTD defence wins matches, John Monie said it and if it's good enough for him that'll suit me.
Think we need to get some more of last seasons aggression back into our defence as our points difference is some way back from the Wire.

| If MM was the coach of England and we actually won a series, I bet so many people wouldn’t complain. Instead we send out international team who think defence is something that goes round de house. Low a behold we haven’t won a series since the seventies. Unless we change at international level, and to change at international level we have to play that way week in week out at the domestic level, we will never win another series against Australia or New Zealand ever again.

Shushed! Even to suggest such a thing will be taken as gospel by the more paranoid Pie fans.
The outraged squeals of media bias from a gormless few, are matched only by the deafening silence from the Club's chairman. The begrudging admission from the Club, that the tip sheets may have been altered simply adds fuel to the fire, and helps promote the view that you have something to hide.
Who would have thought, that when Kenneth Williams spouted his famous infamy, infamy line in a Carry On film, that years later it would be taken up so enthusiastically by Wigooners?

| We invented Wrestling coaches that is why St Pats (then) U11's used to go wrestling every week and that was 5 years ago.

| total rubbish if you ask me. so what if its been leaked about our tactics. isn't a tactic part of the sport? its a defensive technique / tactic and as far as i'm aware is 100% legal according to the rules of the sport - therefore is not cheating.
ok so a few of our tackles, namely lima, of late have come under close scrutiny but how on earth does the sport expect its players and coaches to gain experience and skills without trying something new. the sport as far as SL is concerned is still young in comparison to many other sports so why bring it down with this utter garbage? the press should be behind the sport not against it and nobody should be criticizing any team for using fair tactics in order to win a game.
ok if it gets out of hand then deal with it then. until then, its pointless dribble so let the game be the game.
at the rate we are going there will soon be a weight cap as well as a salary cap and no squad of 17 will be allowed to be over a combined weight of 150 stone or something, just so nobody gets hurt. tick rugby here we go...
