| Looking at it from a distance,it's clear the hostility more comes from the Wigan RL fans.
Wigan RL had all the limelight in that town for years and years while the football side lived in it's shadow, but along came the football team in the town who made it to the biggest league in the world and took the limelight off the RL side and the Rugby fans couldn't handle it.

| Werent really that bothered about them untill I started my new job last year where there are a couple of Latics fans there who simply hate Wigan Rugby! I asked them why and they couldnt explain it just mumbling 'its a sport', or something along those lines.
Enjoy watching them lose now just to wipe the smile off their smug faces

| One town, I'm a "Wiganer" and I support Wigan. I don't care if that's RL, Football Cricket etc..that's just me though and I'm sure everyone else has their reasons to be different.
IMO the bickering from both sides holds back the potential of massive support on the terraces for both sides.
Anyway I can't be bothered to argue about it, I ain't trying to convert anyone!

| i really dont like the latics at all,
been kinda a half supporter for many a year, used go down with granddad on a sat.
there recent "success" has made them arrogant that coupled with the general arrogance of football im beginning to hate them
on the flip side tho, i hate the fact that all the pundits and papers run wigan down all the time, no matter what angle they are looking at wigan is always crap.

I know what you're saying about the media, Sky are the worst for small clubs in the premier league. If your not a top 6 club fan it ain't worth listening/watching!
And a lot of the arrogance comes from the new "fans" who have not seen the bad times. Success breeds arrogance, and it's there to be seen at every successful clubs terraces in the country. Have a walk around our own ground and have a listen, it's unbelievable compared to a couple of years ago!

| I think the root of it all, and it is prob the same for most of the warriors fans who hate the latics, its the general arrogance of football.
They think they are better than everyone else and want everything their own way,

| Quote: hula89 "So what was the reason for that fallout?
Cockney latics (btw where the hell does "Cockney Latics" come from?!) seem to think its to do with the council picking the Rugby over them in some way.'"
The Cockney Latic board originates from the owners, I believe one of them is a Wiganer who then went to live in London and created the website (not 100% if thats accurate but I think thats right.)
As for the fallout the Latics fans seem to recall times when they were supposedly looked down upon by certain Wigan rugby fans. One of those occasions includes the infamous chippy slogan whereby a local chip shop near the old Springfield Park had a sign in the window that allegedly said 'Good Luck Gillingham' (In case you hadn't guessed, Latics played Gillingham on that date - not sure if it was a big game at the time however)
Then there was the furore over the FA Cup tie when Wigan Athletic drew Liverpool at home. In order to boost revenue & improve the overall attendance the Latics wanted to play the game at Central Park to which the rugby hierarchy simply said 'No'.
Years later Maurice Lindsay was interviewed on the Latics and made an inflammatory statement about the Latics being a 'nice little football club playing in the back yard of rugby league'.
All this led to resentment by the fans of the time and of course when the Latics made it to the Premiership as fate would have it the rugby had hit a bad patch and that hatred spilled out. Of course many of the fans who spout the vitriol probably only have their dads and grandads word that this, that and the other happened but it didn't stop them jumping on the 'town turning blue' bandwagon - Personally I think this is why our attendances were so good when we were so awful.
So thats the history as I know it. Personally I want both to succeed as a Wiganer and won't fall out with the Latics just because some fans are bigoted in their views including my friends. I have even been abused by a Latics fan for supporting the rugby but to react is stooping to a lower level then I am prepared to go.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg |

29281_1270406980.jpg When Maurice sold me to Leeds something changed, it just not the same, the passion inside me just wasn’t the same as running out at Central park for my hometown club.
We need a change of culture here; we don’t want to be just happy with playing ok on Saturday at St Helens.
Ill make sure that from now on things will change, that players will be under pressure and will train a lot harder than they have before.

He said that years before tics played Liverpool in the League cup. The reason they didnt play the game at Central Park was due to there being no segregation..common sense really. As for the ML interview just put into the very well known video sharing website..Maurice Lindsay v wigan athletic ......what did say that was untrue??
