To be honest, I don't think you need be too concerned about rumours getting out of hand. People will always talk and make outrageous claims. At one time, every works in Wigan was an RL rumour factory. Since the age of the internet, the rumour industry has gone stratospheric. Most folk with any sense don't take them too seriously, especially the really outlandish ones, and any libelous rumours run the risk of getting the website that hosts them fined or put out of business - so that's really their own risk.
I can't answer your first question because I know no more than anyone else and if I made a suggestion as to why they've still not made a statement, I'd only be guessing. One thing is certain, they'll have a reason. I doubt IL is withholding this info purely to be bloody-minded.

Human Rights Act 1998 could apply to Gleeson not having to have his employments issue and any possible disciplinary played out in public. That's the reason the club are rightly saying nothing at the moment.

I am pretty sure other clubs and other businesses are not as silent as Wigan on such issues nor take as long to resolve them withhout ending up being sued as a result.
I doubt the lack of information has anything to do with the law or human rights act. The clubs record on this speaks for itself in that it said it was going to make a statment re Hock and never did. It's just the way it works and I think a lot of fans find it frustrating that they don't know what the situation is with players when things drag on for weeks which I also think is a natural enough reaction.
If Madge is asked post match on Sunday about Gleeson what is he going to say? It's obvious something is going on, the press are aware of it so unless Wigan impose a media blackout and refuse to speak to the press at all then Madge, Wane and IL and anyone else associated with the club [iwill[/i be asked about it. If they want to say "no comment" they can but hiding from Radio Manchester is going a bit far IMO.

Absolutely. I can't understand the total silence when so many rumours (one in particular) have done the 'Twitter' rounds and appeared in the media. Surely a statement would be of benefit even if it actually says very little but dispels some of the myths.
I also feel that we deserve an explanation sooner rather than later. We're the ones who pump our hard-earned cash into the club and despite IL's millions we're a integral part of running the club successfully.
Personally, I just feel really, really disappointed.

The trouble is, Dave, you suspecting that other businesses don't operate in this way doesn't mean that they don't, and you doubting this lack of info has anything to do with the law doesn't mean that it hasn't.
No doubt it's very frustrating to those of us who want to know every single thing that's going on at the club, but we're not entitled to that information, especially not if it apertains to a player's private life. Washing dirty linen in public is not something everyone wants to do, regardless of the clamour for juicy gossip.
I think it's highly likely that the moment Martin Gleeson's separation from Wigan RL is finalised, you'll be officially informed. But you won't necessarily be given the reasons why, as both he and Wigan may consider that it has nothing to do with you.
Also, I really don't think you can just dismiss the legal issue simply because it doesn't suit your position.

Bearing in mind we still await an "official statement" on Hock, post his B Test, from 2 years ago, he may not be talking for a good while!

It's not a clamour for juicy gossip and me suspecting the lack of info has nothing to do with the law is as valid an opinion of those who think it might. It is merely wanting to know why one of our first choice centres has seemingly vanished without explanation.
As fans who have an interest in supporting the team wanting to know where Gleeson is and why he is not playing is no different to asking when Finch is going to be ready to play. We want to be kept up with team developments and I think we [iare[/i entitled to ask given how much time and money we spend on supporting the club. I do not understand why you think we are not entitled to the kind of information being sought which has nothing at all to do with his private life or any grubby details but simply what is his status as a Wigan player.

It is just speculation that it is a legal issue that prevents any comments so it's no more a valid an opinion than mine saying this ought not to be an obstacle to keeping the fans reasonably informed. It's also true that sooner rather than later Madge or someone else from the club will be put on the spot by someone in the media so what are they going to say? I am sure when players have been dealt with for disciplinary reasons at Wigan in the past and at other clubs it's all been done and dusted without it dragging on for weeks with a total silence from the club(s).
I am sure I am not the only one who does not need or want to know anything about this that may be of a personal nature but do want to know what his status is as a Wigan player and I think we are entitled to ask that question.
