Quote: Steve Ella's Beard "I think for me it currently depends on the Coley/Fielden contract situation, and whether or not Paul want's to be a Rugby League player for the next X years (i'm not suggesting he doesn't, merely that he's obviously got other options).'"

Your right as we can't really let Coley, Prescott and Feka go and bring in 1 prop as we will be back to square one regarding props. However, I just feel that Prescott isn't quite good enough and it's a shame really as he obviously cares about the club and plays his heart out but it's never going to be enough in my harsh honest opinion.

And unfortunatley for O'Carroll He just isn't big enough Full Stop icon_wink.gif

Whether either of them are good enough Long term is debatable and decent arguments on both sides.
I'm with Bill Barlow on this one though, If one of them has to be moved on my money would be on O'C.

If a Good Big un beats a Good little un, Then i'm afraid the same applies to "Average" players as well.

Id keep Prescott over O'Carroll everytime.

Prescott has stacks of potential, Eamon's size will ever stop him being top class.

Have them take hit ups against a defence fully targetting him with 3-4 players putting everything they've got every hit up because they know the strength isn't there on the bench to replace him. Make that defence be of the size/power of Morley, Carvell, Harrison, Westwood etc.

Maybe to a degree........Maybe morley would have been less effective in the wigan team due to the overall dominance in the forwards, but to say he'da played a shocker like fielden did would never have happened.

I have never seen a game where morley has been dominated in every tackle and dropped, or looked to drop every carry he had taken up. You could put morley in with the St Pats team against Austrailia, and yes he wouldnt be as dominant as in the wire game because the pats forwards would be dominated out the game, but he wouldnt have been as epically 5h1t as fielden was last week!!

Morley wouldn't last a match in a Wigan shirt. He'd be sent off for sure. I remember when he played for another "graced and favoured" team from over the pennines. He was allowed to punch, kick and fore-arm smash anyone that came close to him wearing a cherry and white shirt with complete impunity. It required the good services of Mick Cassidy? (I think) to get him removed from the field (either to the blood bin or fracture clinic, I'm not sure). The most annoying thing was, we lost the services of Cassidy for five matches, But I'll never forget the fine contribution he made to the game as a whole. I hope Wigan doubled his pay for the period he wasn't playing due to his standing up for justice and fair play.

Can you remember a single game where Morley/Peacock/Vella have been clearly outplayed (rather than bullied) bacause i cant think of one. I can think of a few where i've been less than impressed with Fielden. Like i said he's never going to be a bad player but taking everything into account i'd prefer to take a chance on an improving young player rather than a declining older one.

Ask Eamon O'Carroll for a start, or Eorl Crabtree when Morley tried to smash him and got put on his arris.

Things happen to all players in the right (or more accurately wrong) set of circumstances. Harrison didn't one on one 'bounce' Fielden, Stu took hitup after hitup into 3/4 big defenders going all guns blazing on him - one of those hits ups resulted into Harrison's shoulder impacting with a great deal of force into Stu's chin (Harrison wasn't first man tackling, Stu had been 'teed up').

Unsuprisingly after a shot like that (which required him leaving the field of play and being assessed by the doctor) his game wasn't as good as prior to that shot - although he still did a big shift in defence.

Morley, Peacock, Vella, Graham, anybody flesh and blood, would have been reeling from that Harrison hit and also been unable to prevent it. It's just one of those things that happens in a Rugby match. I played prop all throughout school, flattened plenty of people, been flattened in situations to, never once did I think a situation like on Friday was either them or myself being soft and getting dominated, and neither did the people I played against.

It's a seriously tough sport, and I can respect all the players playing it - there's far less physically demanding ways to earn a living

Watching Prescott on Friday reminded me again why I prefer O'Barrel. As soon as Prescott hit's the tackler he just dies in the tackle and goes to the ground, no leg drive no fight nothing.

Adrian Morley's a superb player not only because he hits the line hard and aggressively but that once he's hit the line he continues to make ground in the tackle through leg drive.

Some might say Prescott does it purposely to gain a quick play the ball, but it fact I've always found Paul to be slow and labored while regaining his feet to play the ball. I'm just wanting a little more aggression from Prescott and some fight in the tackle.

I agree Morley is a superb player, and makes great metres, but he's flesh and blood and would have got bounced in the same hit as Fielden did.

There's just a bit of an urban legend surrounding some players, either positively or negatively - Adrian has a positive one (he's only ever hard but fair), Stu a negative one (he's soft)

Morley's come a long way from being an epic high tackle merchant and his stallwart 'hard but fair' defenders over the years would forget Robbie McCormack, John Wilkin etc etc (but strangely remember Cassidy on Morley) and overlook the Corey Hughes incident.

Prescott was Fantastic on Friday (Especially 1st 20 mins) and showed me all the reasons why I prefer him to O'Carroll.
Tbf you can talk about his leg drive/fight/aggression etc and then say O'C has more of it ( I don't believe that BTW just paraphrasing yourself).
I look for example at how many defenders Prescott attracts and how much he takes out of them when he makes more yards etc after collision.

However IMO it's just the "Style" of that particualr player i.e Pryce looks laid back whereas Ainscough "Looks" like he wants to be involved more OR some people like Hookers who seem to be invloved more and a touch more direct i.e Lulu or Mickey Higham over an organising Hooker like Riddell or Millard in his year here.

Top line for me is that Some people like players who "Seem" to be more interested or "Seem" To give less effort over Laid back players.
I don't believe that to be the be all of what that players contribution to the team is i.e They appear to show more effort so they must be better.
I think there are Many Many More facets to any Role in the team and IMO Prescott ticks more boxes than O'C.

Just an opinion though and as I've said many times that's not slagging O'C off because if he was in the team I'd be wanting him to do as well as possible, I just feel that "If" Hypothetically 1 had to go then Prescott would be the better long term option to stay.

So because Morley caught an unintentional knock to the face which broke his cheekbone he was outplayed by OCarrol, and because he bounced of Crabtree on a single occassion, afterwards getting up to try again, he was crumbled then as well?

Eddie summed Fielden up perfectly on the night after he took the knock "If he was a boxer youd have to question his chin"

There really isn't any further discussion when you don't apply the same logic across the board.
