| Quote: DaveO "The problem is if Coley or Fielden is not available we don't have an experienced or good enough alternative because Madge will not play Feka.
I am sure Feka does not match up to his standards in several ways but he is still a SL standard player and NOT playing him isn't working either against a big pack.
There was no need to have such an inexperienced pack with Feka in the squad. I am sure the younger players can train the house down compared to Feka but they are not ready to be played in such numbers with only Fielden as a senior front row player.
Having Deacon in the Bench and playing him for 10 mins was pointless. I'd rather have Feka on for 10 mins than do that the trouble is Feka is now probably so not match fit and demotivated he probably isn't an alternative anyway. Well done Wigan in reducing our squad by one senior prop!
Does anyone think Solomona would get into our side? I don't because he's as much as Madge type player as Feka is. He's not that mobile, he looks overweight but he was plenty big enough to tire our lot out. Smith will use what he's got whereas Madge seems to want to stick to his principles even if it means putting too many young players up against an experienced pack. Well experience (or is it pragmatism of playing what you have got?) won out over principle tonight.
Dave'"
Great Post. Solomona is a "luxury" player just like Feka. I think it comes down to coaching styles, Tony Smith has always been a coach that encourages entertainment and attacking styles. Madge prefers a more structured game and is definately a more defence focussed coach.

| To recognise Fielden as a hard man of Superleague is rapidly becoming the biggest joke ever. I have quoted it first!!! In 2 years he will be playing in the National league because he cannot cut the mustard. He is getting owned by the up and coming youngsters.

| Firstly, I'll reiterate what alot have already said; to have to face arguably the strongest front row in SL with only 2 recognised props is a seemingly impossible task for any pair, but we still need to accept both Fielden and Prescott were well and truly 'owned' last night.
We need a big, hard, aggressive and even dirty prop to come in and strengthen our front row because at the moment, no team in SL is worried about facing it. Fielden shouldn't be getting a three year deal (as is rumoured) on the back of that performance. I'd be interested to see how well he's performed against good packs, because for all he has improved hugely this year, he still doesn't cut it against big packs enough. Prescott was poor for me, and whether he will ever be good enough I don't know to be honest, but with age on his side and hopefully a top Aussie to learn from next season, he's certainly worth another year.

| I think someone posted it early in the year "NO Props no POTS" and although we were missing Coley last night I just wonder if the Prop situation means that we will have to wait until next year with some new recruits before we win either the GF or CC.

Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| I can't wait for Hock to come back, he will do the business next season and I would have loved him to have played tonight.

What lost Wigan the game last night was a couple of things. First of all Wigan really should have been well infront by around 18 to 20 points in the first half when Warrington spilled the ball constantly. Secondly personally I feel Michael McGuire got the Interchange Bench all wrong. Feka should have been on the bench and to only use Deacon with 8 mins to go was another waste of a bench spot. Wigan will still finish first but there are still many things to work on.

| Jeez, one bad game for Fielden and people want him out of here? This was the only game this season he hasnt been able to cut it. He was pretty much the only prop we had, no offense to Prescott... but he looks more like a second row to me. So it was alot like Fielden v Morley, Carvell and Wood. He had a stormer against St Helens though... I always thought Warrington had the biggest pack in SL and last night proved it, we were just bullied. I think if we had new props come in along side Fielden, that would do him good... he seems to get motivated and fired up with what players he has around him.
Im not gonna say we need to get rid just yet, il save that for the play-offs... I didnt expect much from him that game tbh, not when he is pretty much our only "big" prop. This game was crying for Feka, at least when he comes off the bench he makes an impact... even if its for only 10 mins

| If we can loan out Feka for the remainder of the season will his money count on the cap? If not I suppose we could get Lima over asap.

| How the hell anybody can defend Fielden after last night is beyond me. He was truly terrible, anybody saying otherwise must either be his agent or related Prescott was ok but he just seems to lack that bit of oomph to be a decent prop. Coley would of made a big difference imo because he doesnt make too many silly handling errors.
We did blow some big chances though too, if Farrell had of scored that chance he fluffed we would of won imo because we had the on the rack at that point. If you add that to the Richards no try which could of been given if they were playing the same rules as we had against Saints we still had the chances.
We were always going to struggle against the size of their pack with the players we had out but with the ref being so lenient as well that really didnt help.
P.S When Riddell wasnt on the field we looked e and had no go forward whatsoever.

| The thing Wire did last night was get stuck into Fielden and get stuck in quick therefore taking out our front row, if Fielden had another 2 fully bonified props playing along side him Wire wouldn't have been able to do it to all 3. We lost the game last night because of our pi55 week front row, even with Coley we still would have struggled, we are desperate for another fully bonified prop to play along side Fielden, Coley and Lima if we sign him with Prescott, O'Carroll and Davies waiting in the wings.
Fielden carried our front row last night against a big and aggressive Warrington front row as Prescott isn't up to it he is more a 5th choice prop.
If we sign Luke Bailey and Jeff Lima and keep both Coley and Fielden then games like last night would have been won.

| What gets me is people seem to think 1 prop will fix it.
In the first half last night our whole pack got bullied by Warrington, and when some of our younger players needed more experienced, hard knocks by their side Wigan were lacking.
It's useless signing a prop, if we don't bring in a tough, class second rower last night.
How different would've last nights game been if Wigan would have had Hoffman and Hock in the mix?

| Wire knew Coley was out and O'Carroll injured. So they targeted Fielden and Prescott also knowing MM wouldn't play Feka!
Once Wire managed to keep hold of the ball they just got stuck in to our two props. They made mistakes because they got batttered repeatedly!
Keeping Feka on the bench and Deacon taking his spot for less than 10 mins was Leeds all over again. Feka can do 20-25 mins and should have been out there. For next week MM's got to go with four props at HullFC. Coley's back and either he plays Feka or brings Davies back from Widnes.
Wire though didn't complete a set until over 15 mins into the game. With all their mistakes we should have had three or four scores on the board. That was the worst opening of a game by a pro rugby team I've ever seen yet we were only 6-0 up. It was obvious that when Wire got their game going they would be a threat and so it proved. First time in our half they score and then score again going in 12-6 up at half time.
I do think we lost the game in the first 15-20 mins.
