Quote: Fames "Just hope that Silverwood is strong enough to deal with any bad tackles/assaults. I've got a sick feeling that some of our smaller stars ( Sam/Tommy) and maybe even some of our bigger key players (Lockers/Pat)will be targetted by Morley & co.

Anyone seen the picture on the official club site today - a nice picture of Morley doing a grapple tackle on Mossop. Maybe a subtle (or not so subtle!) reminder of what to expect.'"

Dont worry about Lockers or Pat they as tough b*astards and can take big hits. Sam and Tommy may get their heads taken off though! icon_eek.gif

I just hope we are talking about rugby rather than referees after the game. icon_razz.gifRAY:

Quote: rochdale warrior "I think Mr Silverwood is a very good ref, and he does't show any bias towards the home team, and the hooter at the DW is now very loud, and lets all hope that the best team wins on the night and we are not talking about ref's decisions but the quality of the rugby league played.
There, how's that ?'"

Seems I was right! How many late challenges were there by Warrington, particularly in the 1st 20 minutes? Silverwood penalised a couple of blatant ones but missed several others, particularly by Morley after kicks.

When are Wigan going to get the rub of the green/benefit of the doubt in the big games? Yet again a crucial mistake by the video ref in not awarding an attacking scrum when Mathers knocked on. Should have been a Wigan scrum 10 metres out. Similar to the Smith knock on in the Cup Q/F - not even a 50/50 call. 100% obvious!! Even Eddie and Stevo agreed it was a Mathers knock on!

Yes, Gleeson was offside when penalised at the scrum, but Warrington were equally offside almost every scrum. And how did neither Silverwood nor the touch judge spot the forward pass to Hicks - must have been nearly 2 yards forward. Ironically, he gave the forward pass to disallow the Hicks try - which was forward, but only by a foot or so!

Some people think it isnt the ref who costs a side the game, but blatant mistakes, particularly those from the video ref that are inexcusable, certainly contribute to a defeat. I'm just hoping Wigan get the benefit of some of these mistakes in the Play Offs!

difficult one this , how do you criticise the refereeing decisons you have just witnessed without it sounding like sour grapes ?

wire had a game plan . target SF , they got rid of him , target the kicker/1st /2nd reciever , job done

so many late and cheap shots went unpinished , JT does it and we get pulled almost immedieatley

i depair at the standard of refereeing and video refs too

as allready mentioned , when will we get the rub of the green in a big game ?

wire stil deserved to win though

Referee had no control and let a lot go, so many high shots and late tackles it was unreal. But ultimately he didn't make us drop the ball or bomb chances. But to lose by a mere try when playing with only 2 props can't complain too much.

The cheapest shot of all was the one by Joel Tomkins when Myler scored, nothing like a late elbow in the face when you're on the floor.

It was late, it wasn't an elbow to the face.

Nothing like carvell trying to rip Sams head off though.

He didn't. If you watch the replay he pulled back. You're clutching at straws now.

He refused to give blatant offside against wire more than once.
He let wire get away a lot of high shots.
He let wire get away with lots of late hits on the kicker and on anybody they could which we have been sinbinned for in other games.

We were always gonna struggle in the forwards but when the ref lets a team get away with so much foul play it was beyond a joke.

The funny thing is these things we did in our "game plan" were the same ideas you lot had in the "How to beat wire" thread.

Silverwood is very poor. He's the worst ref in SL by a long way.

The forward pass at Bradford which won Wire the cup tie was so blatant it's not even a discussion point. That one decision and the unfairness of it has wrecked Bradford. They haven't won a game since and the coach has just been sacked. True they've had injuries but so has every team.

At Hudds he binned Joel & Coley for technical offences and allowed Mason twice to take Leuluai's head off after he kicked the ball and did not do anything.

Last night he allowed Wire to head hunt the kicker once the ball had gone. When the TJ came on after one incident and he hadn't blown up Silverwood snarled at the TJ for coming on for foul play. He then had no choice but to penalise Wire. He ignored the rest of the head high shots the TJ never came on again. No doubt under strict intructions from Silverwood not to.

I wrote to Stuart Cummings after the Hudds game complaining about Silverwood but we had won then. I won't now as we have lost.
"Only complain about the referee when you've won"

So many relevant comments on this and the seeming bias against Wigan by refs and VRs in the crucial games against Leeds, Saints and Warrington these past few months.

2 years ago to the day (18/07/08 - I remember it well because it was my birthday!), the Wigan V Saints game was ruined as a contest by the ref (Thaler?) sending off Micky Mac for a "high challenge" on Ade Gardner after about 5 minutes. What made it worse was that Mac had been adjudged to have knocked on at the play the ball a couple of minutes earlier when there was blatant interference. The challenge was high - but it was not as bad as some of the Warrington challenges on Friday. How times change or how your luck can be in depending on the referee!

How Morley has escaped censure/suspension this year totally bemuses me - there was a horrendous challenge in the game the week before Warrington played Wigan in February and he escaped punishment - as does Jamie Peacock time after time.

I do not class Andy Coley as a "dirty player" ( unlike Kelvin Skerrett or Terry Newton) and his rash challenge against Catalans did not merit a 2 game ban. If Coley had been playing on Friday, I think Wigan would have won - providing we had had the rub of the green ( or just correct decisions) from the ref and VR!

deary me...talk about clutching a straws....just accept the best team won and move on..the amount of excuses coming out of Wigan is unbelievable. Was it the ref that stopped you from getting a good lead in the first 20 mins when we kept giving you the ball?..you weren't good enough end of.
