| Quote: Jimmy Birts Lives On "Absolutely awful things. They stifle atmosphere. They don't create it. The drummers seem hell bent on playing the same God awful boring tunes all the time (the Vindaloo or Barmy Army tunes). They are counter productive, as witnessed at the recent Quins game where I remain convinced they played a part in a steady fightback by Quins. That song that night didn't encourage the home team, it encouraged an away team who were building a 2nd half rhythm. Which demonstates that not only are the drums a bad thing but the drummers themselves are total s.
They even try to destroy some half decent songs like 'Greatest Club in the world' & 'By far the greatest team' both of which require no such drum assistance.
They are murdering the atmosphere home and away.'"
Obviously not everyone thinks that
Quote: Jimmy Birts Lives On "
What absoloute tosh! These are professional sportspeople, so what your saying is if 20-30 st helns fans chant barmy army for the derby, it will throw the team. We lost the game for many factors, The Barmy Army Chant wasnt one of them. Shows how little you understand of the sportsmans brain to keep banging your drum on this ridicuolus view. '"

| If we are to have a drum they all need to stand/sit in the same end as it sounds daft at times when there out of time/sequeince, maybe if we had a bowl stadium it mite sound better like hull fc.

| Don't want to bang on about this, but what about inviting the Grenadier Guards for a demo, did anyone see that programme this week when they were " Trooping the Colour " for the Queen.
Now those guys can drum.

| here we go yet another thread on cherry and white slating the young people at the back of the south stands, so far we've had idiots, thick so and so, ed up little scroats.
Seems to me when some threads are created theres a group of posters just waiting to have go at them.( For the record i am in my 30's and sit at the back of the south stand ). Generally they are well behaved and whilst occasionally there can be drunkenness it is not the norm. By exagurrtaing their behaviour only shows yourselves as over the top.
Without the drum the atmosphere at home games would be very flat, notibly the last home game for one. I do agree that at times there are a few, by my counting 2 in south stand, 1 in East ( as it sounds). Generally i think the quality of the play is acceptable, and they have improved in week on week this season. The band at Leeds/internationals is great, we (myself and daughter) would love to see that at home games. My vote is for Yes we need the drums.

No, I'm in my 30's too and have loved vocally supporting Wigan since my days on the Popular Side. This has nothing to do with Southstanders or young uns'. It's about the drums and nothing else. They murder the atmosphere. Absolutely kill it.
Atmosphere is more than an obsession with hammering out an out of time beat to Vindaloo that takes half an hour to get to the bit before folk shout 'Warriors' FFS I've nearly fallen asleep before that bit. They are cringeworthy.

| Stay away from them lads. We have them and they're very cringeworthy. I think you do a good job at present creating an atmosphere.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

Do you not agree that there would be less atmosphere at home without the drums?
The atmosphere at home is terrible not because of the drums but because no one joins in. The away fans do!
