I read somewhere that Fielden was also primary carer for his disabled father. How hard must that have been when his mum was dying of cancer?

A saints fan wrote that on here somewhere but I think it got cleared up that he was confusing him with burgess.

Coley had a very good season last year as well, many on here putting it down to playing for a new contract, now proved to be an unfair comment. If he is "overperforming" as you put it he seems to be able to do it for at least one and a half seasons!
I don't imagine he'll stop overperforming for a while yet.

whats with the tone of your relpy?? At the moment we will find it hard to improve on Fielden and Coley as both performing well. If its not broken dont try and fix it. Areas of improvement might be around Feka's role as Im afraid he is a bit too much of a luxury in the pack currently.

good comment - funny how we dont mention Fielden playing well for a new contract this year when Coley was slated over this last year. I personally dont care what motivates the players to perform as long as they are performing. Long may it continue and untill it stops I dont think we should be in a rush to off load either player.

Stuart Fielden has done a good job so far this season. He has improved as his team mates around him have improved. However, I don't think he is worth signing on and is a player I think we can improve on.
People really rate Stuart's defensive work-rate, but Coley's is actually better:
www.superleague.co.uk/statistics ... eason=2010
Coley (who has played one less game) has made more tackles and more marker tackles. Not only does Coley work harder in defence, he also hits much harder in defence. His defence against Huddersfield was brutal, putting in some massive shots. When was the last time Stu put in a big hit? Going forward there isn't much to choose between them, Stuart has made slightly more metres and carries, but he has also played an extra game. Coley seems to be a key part of this captains team and is rumoured to be very popular with his team mates. I bet he is on a considerably less wage than Fielden too.
We need to strengthen the pack. So one of Coley, Fielden and Feka must go. For me it's Fielden that needs to be replaced. Andy Coley has improved each season and is the better player for me & is a more valuable asset to the team. Even with Fielden on reduced terms you're still going to get the same player. We need to improve on Stuart. So if it was up to me, he would be the one to go and I would extend Andy's contract for another year with an option for a second in the clubs favour. This gives us chance to weigh up how Prescott, O'carroll and Davies are developing & how Gareth Hock and Lee Mossop fit into the squad.

Why should Feka not go? If we are going on stats then Fielden's are far better across the board. If Fielden is willing to take a large paycut then im happy for him to stay
Coley should stay thats for sure, last week was one of his best games in a Wigan shirt. He seems to get better with every game this season

Well for me it's Feka i'm afraid. Yes he offers us something different, but personally that something different isn't what I actually want, what I actually want is more of the same we get from Coley+Fielden in the other 2 props (not criticising Barrell, I think he's been performing well)
I'm also unsure still currently as to the availability (and realistically their desire to play here) of a prop that I'd feel offered a genuine improvement.
We all have different views on what we want from a squad, and i'm very firmly in the 2+2 camp when running 4 forwards (40 - 45 minute props) unless I could get a genuine high standard 60 minute+ prop (there are only a tiny amount of these in RL).
I also really agree with something that Clifford posted, in that I don't think it's an area we're underperforming in, so I wouldn't make a change unless it was for somebody very special.

I agree with you. Perhaps Feka might have to be the one to make way. I was backing up Andy Coley over Fielden as that seemed to be the debate between people. However what happens to Feka is still in his hands and the situation might very well change by the end of the season.

Feka can go for me. Get a new nasty prop in who can do the big hits in defence and make good metres. Leave the impact players to the 2nd rowers, if we get Hock/Mossop/A.N.Other to become a Puletua-esque player, then they and Joel Tomkins can provide enough of a spark from the 2nd row.

Both been very average players over the last few years. What maguire has done with them is nothing short of geniuse!

Actually Coley has been good for pretty much his whole time with us. Stu has blown a little more hot and cold but was decent last season and better this. I take your point regarding their improvement under Maguire though. Having said that, much the same could be said for most, if not all, of the squad!

| Imo, if the right prop is available to sign, then it will be Feka who makes way, he doesnt seem to be Maguires type of player. But like i said it depends on available players and wage demands
