| I'm not a fan of Nobby's style of RL and I was quite happy for him to be given the shove mid season. In hindsight that wouldn't have been a good idea. Some of the rugby we've started playing is very entertaining but it doesn't cover the issues we've had at the start of the year. I do expect some shock results throughout the course of the year and losing to Celtic wouldn't have been so hard to swallow if it was just a blip. Loses to Castleford, Hull, Wakey, Catalan & Warrington effectively ruined what could have been a good season for us and if we'd won those games we'd have been in second place.
Getting to the GF would be great but it still doesn't hide the fact that we've been underachieving in the league for a few years now.
Will I be happy for us to win the final? Of course. Will I be happy for Noble to go if we win? I suspect that decision was made months ago though.

For the best way to
Get to Wigan Games!
LIGHT TRAVELS FASTER THAN SOUND.
THAT IS WHY SOME PEOPLE LOOK BRIGHT TILL YOU HEAR THEM SPEAK!: |
|
| I thought you were leaving this thread ?
The simple fact with Noble is that people do not agree about him.
No view is right 100% No view is 100% wrong...
Now here is a good idea...
LOVE HIM OR HATE HIM... or any point in between...
ffs will you lot grow up and spend a couple of days getting brhind the team and enjoying the fact that we are 80 minutes from a Grand Final.
SURELY THAT SHOULD BE THE CENTER OF ATTENTION FOR A DAY OR TWO.
LEAVE THIS TILL THE SEASON IS OVER EH?

| Quote: Jukesays "Quote: Jukesays "I just think that sometimes you have to take risks.
But as I've said before, if IL gets this wrong I will willingly join in the chorus of disapproval.[/quote]
If IL gets it wrong?
Which way?
If he hires someone else and they aren't as good as Noble?
If so then a lot of the Fans need to be criticised Not IL as I believe that at least some part of IL's decision making will/has been influenced by a lot of the Negative press BN gets from fans of his own club.
I don't see how we could criticise him for hiring someone else in that scenario and "Taking a Risk" as you put it when partly the fans wanted him to do this?
When your saying "If IL gets this wrong you will join in the chorus of disapproval".
At what point will you say he's got it wrong? If He re signs Noble?
Or
When the results with the new man don't go the perfect way?
Either way we would then be criticising him for resigning a Top SL coach without knowing what results he's going to get us.
Or
We would then Criticise IL for hiring the wrong man when we could have had the right man all along and yet partly his hand was forced to change him possibly due to pressure from within who would then be the chief architechts no doubt of the New Man's or IL's downfall.
If he does Hire a new man then I sincerely hope that We All give him the length of his contract to complete his job irrespective of our success. (IMO only complete disaster such as bottom 3 or 4 would be deemed worthy of sacking IMO)'" '"
That's a lot of questions for a man who'd supposedly had enough of this subject.
But there's a simple answer.
IL will have got it wrong (in my opinion), if he replaces Noble with someone who's credentials aren't as good as Noble's.
Let's not get into all these silly ifs, buts and what-ifs. You know exactly what I mean. The chairman needs to replace Nobby with someone who is highly rated and I don't just mean because he's a nice guy or because, for example, 'he's a Wiganer'. He needs to be someone very promising for this club, not just someone who 'fancies having a go at it'.
If IL does this, and the new guy gets it wrong (i.e. if the Wigan team plays as badly under him as it has under Noble), I won't blame IL. He can only do so much, and if he's appointed the new man on form then he can't be held accountable. As to what happens then, Heaven only knows, though I suspect IL will give him plenty time to prove himself - let's be honest, he gave Nobby an extra year when many said that he shouldn't.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| I think the easy answer which a few people have said is that it's already been sorted out if he is staying or not. If we win the GF then I wouldn't mind just to see if he could build on that and the players would know they are some of the best.
First job for the new coach IMO is making Robin Park a fortress... BN has not done this.

| I think he should go for the reasons explained on the other thread.
Those suggesting that we might not replace him with anyone better are correct, there is a risk that we end up with a less able coach than BN but I think we have to trust in IL that he will find someone with new ideas and with the drive and determination to take Wigan that final step to closing the gap on our rivals and then pushing us on to regain our status as the leading club in British RL...

All the morons that said otherwise could look back to this thread and ask themselves how they came to their conclusion if we don't do more than "just reach the GF in 2009" in future years with a prospective new coach.
'"
Morons, eh?
So we've had 'thick', 'stubbon', 'mule-headed', and now we've got 'morons' ... despite several posters going out of their way to explain as eloquently as possible why they'd prefer someone else, and getting almost no reasoned response to most of the points they've put forward.
I'd suggest that some contributors to this forum haven't had their best week.

I thank Nobby for developing our club as it is deffo in a much better position now than it was when he came. To answer the original question, NO I wouldn't keep him if we got to GF unless we had no alternative. I don't think WANE should go from reserve team coach to 1st team. I'd like to see Michael Maguire with WANE as assistant.'"
Couldn't agree more, I've already expressed similar opinions on this before and come to the same coaching conclusion as you.

I agree and that's what happens every year. We should have beaten an average Warrington side to reach Wembley. I can't erase that from my mind.
