McGuire depends on him being granted a visa and the RFL being satisfied. He hasn't got first grade coaching experience and that goes against their coaching rules.

| what about shaun wane and john pendlebury, pendlebury is an ex super league coach of the year if im not mistaken??
perhaps if they like rolf harris, drink tinnies and call everybody 'sport', they might be more accepted.

| I like shaun wane, i think he has the passion of a true wiganer and has served his apprentiship for several years in the reserve grades.
He deserves his chance and no side coached by shaun would ever lack passion.
Wane as head coach, faz as assistant with pendlebury as 21's coach and rads as 18's coach.

Faz will probably be head coach at Wigan in the future without doubt, but not before his RU meal ticket expires

Is the ruling that he isn't allowed to take a Head Coach position over here, but he can take an Assistant's job? Maybe that's why there was a rumour of Noble staying round for another year - McGuire as his assistant with a look to taking the top job if/when he became eligible.
Noble gone and Waney taking the top job for a year instead

| Will be disapointed if it isnt McGuire.
Part of me is unsure about Wane and I hope it isnt the cheap option, its a hell of a risk and given IL doesnt want to pay off coaches if they fail, his length of contract will be interesting.
If it is Wane he needs an experienced assistant ala John Kear with Raper.

As far as I'm aware you can't be a first team coachj without having previous first team coaching experience. Therefore if McGuire came over and did a year as assistant, he still wouldn't be eligible after that year as he he still wouldn't have first team coaching experience.
If that makes any sense.

| People can criticise Wane's lack of first team experience as much as they want - but every rookie head coach needs their first opportunity and I think he has earned it given his record with the reserves.

But what would then happen to McGuire if Wane was successful, though with some fans attitudes, unless he wins the double he wont be.

No idea if there is anything in what has been said here, but IF Wane is appointed as Head Coach, with McGuire under him, my take on that is that it would be strictly for appearances.
It would make McGuire MUCH easier to employ under the current visa rules, and would work well for the club - We get a top-class "Head Coach" (albeit one who is playing at being 2nd-in-command), and we also gain the Anfield mentality of his successor being in place already.
If/when things either fail to work out or McGuire wants to return home, we (officially) only lose an Assistant Coach and replace him with the next in line for the Head Coach's job, who then learns under Waney.
Wigan REALLY need to develop an Anfield Boot-Room mentality when it comes to coaching.
I guess we'll all just have to wait until we end our play-off run to find out.

| Quote: Cruncher "I'd still prefer McGuire simply because of his reputation as an intellect of the game, and the standard of coaches he's trained under. To have Wane in as some kind of senior assistant (maybe with a view to taking over in the future) would be ideal because, as other's have said, he's Wigan through and through and knows all about the ethos that's been missing from this club in recent years.'"
That would be the ideal partnership IMO (if Noble is going )
I was talking to one of the reserve team players about Wane, "He's as straight as an arrow he said"
He never lies to you, tells you what he expects from you and is always approachable.
He stands no cr@p, if you remember last year he dropped Luke Rhoden and Nicky Stanton from the reserve grand final side even though they had played in the rounds leading up to the final.
No train, no play, his way or the Hi-way. The young players have immense respect for him. They know where they stand.
I think the assistant coaches job would suit him (and Wigan) down to the ground.

| Shaun Wane is ready for his opportunity.
He would bleed cherry and white and although i appreciate that is not enough alone, wane also is a successful reserve grade and junior coach.
If they never get their opportunity how are they supposed to make the grade.
One thing he would immediately have is the respect of all the players who have come through the ranks as most of them will have played under him at some point or other.
