No - they were overhyped after they left, when it suited people to make it appear that we'd released some exceptional talent.

| We didn't even release Gilmour.
He spat his dummy out because he didn't want to play in a certain position.

I think it's a little of column and and and little of column b to be fair.
You lot like to think you produce the best players ever through your academies and people like to use it as a stick to beat you with when you release them.
As I've said before though, I don't think you've really made a mistake with any players you've released over the last 10 or so years. Long may have been, but the circumstances at the time meant he went and hindsight is a wonderful thing.

| To be honest id have Wild and Tickle infront of Hansen and Bailey, Wild played better in his spell at centre than Baileys ever done and offers more in attack aswell as defense plus not a quota spot. To be fair Tickle was having a nightmare at Wigan before he left.
Would love to have Briscoe but he wanted to play regular rugby earlier and i wouldnt have swapped Rads for ANY other FB at the time.
If Newton was still here we would of never signed Piggy thats another example of hindsight being a wonderful thing and we would never have had to put up with 1 trick.
Robinson, Brown, Aspinwall, Smith, not an international rugby player if you add um all together.

Either second row or centre obviously but I can't remember which.
Either way, we got a transfer fee out of it.

| Quote: Bulldogarmy "According to The Sun you're interested in 31 yr old Matt Orford for next year. What is your clubs obsession with signing over-the-hill Aussies? Your club has an absolutely fantastic Academy set-up which has produced some awesome talent during the SL era - unfortunately most of them are doing the business for other SL clubs. Would Orford's signing block and hinder the progress of young Tomkins? Will you be releasing him a la Luke Robinson? Darrell Goulding is an excellent threequarter prospect who was doing well for you, let you release him and pay £100'000 for another washed-up burnout in Gleeson. Someone needs to have a serious word with your board and coaching staff.'"
Your source, the Sun, says it all. Maybe in the past under previous management we'd have gone for Orford but I remember IL saying he's not interested in 'over the hill' Aussies, which is the way it should be. We've got rid of one poor player in Mathers and brought in one of, if not, the best English centre in Gleeson and have got some fringe players out on loan; Mossop & Goulding.
The transfer situation under IL has been okay given that we had limited cap space. What will be interesting is how he goes about recruitment at the end of this season with alot of Mo's signings coming off contract.

| yeah but the really annoying thing with Gilmour is that after he left us he turned into a brilliant second rower at bradford and now is doing his bit at centre for Saints, so what went on for him to not want to play for us in that position whichever it was.
And just getting back to the original post... After the way Orford played in the world club against Leeds this year I don't think you can call him over the hill, cause he still does the job. (yeah I know he's 31 and I know what you're getting at being over the hill with age) If he does come, even just for a year, he can pass on tips to Tomkins and Leuluai which will ultimately make them better players.
The other player not mentioned so far which I think we'll lose is Mossop. I rate this guy when he's playing in the academy for us, I heard Huddersfield were interested in signing him last year and now he's there on loan I think they'll be pushing to keep hold of him permanently. He could be another one of those that we look back on and wish we could have kept like Briscoe

you got in just before me about Mossop. I reckon if we keep him and he's just had first team experience like Goulding at Salford he'll be a great player for us.]

Still not sure about Goulding, the pressure seemed to get to him last season.
Mossop has great potential and did well for Huddersfield on Sunday. Can see him replacing Hansen in the 2nd row for us next season adding real size and power in that department. Later on in his career he will probably move up to prop ala Morley and Peacock, now only if he can play like em too

Don't get me wrong, I rate Orford, but I can't see IL going for him. I can't see him coming over for one year either. I think we need to be patient and go for a younger player, this has been said many times but look at Leeds.
As for Mossop, yes Huddersfield rate him, but I can see him being Bailey's replacement - assuming he's released at the of the season.
