Got all excited thinking this was an 'official announcement'.

It will all depend on how much the club offers him.

Or whether they offer him anything at all, and that may depend on how ready they think Rocky is to take over the No. 1 shirt.

Brett Finch made similar comments of course, and then - I suspect when he learned the club weren't too bothered about keeping him - 'decided' that he was going elsewhere.

I was a bit bothered about that at the time, though it's now obvious the club made the right decision. I already rate Bowen far more highly than I did Finch, so I hope they make the right decision this time too.

Hopefully we'll get another year out of him. Rocky could play 6 next year then drop to full back in 2016 as Sam Tomkins did with Powell/Williams taking over at 6

One of Bowen or Green to stay for me. I prefer Hampshire at 6 and Williams and Powell could both slot in there and be one of the better halves in the league so I'd probably edge towards keeping Bowen.

We're in a great position with the options we have.

Personally, I don't think Hampshire is the future at full back, he's just too talented to be kept out of the halves, so I'd be happy for Bowen to be here for another year for Wane to ponder who would take over at 1

Grimmy both yourself and Chruncher have mentioned that Bowen staying for another season could give Hampshire the chance to play 6 next year and then moving him back to fullback when Bowen has gone.
If that is the case fair do's , but with complete silence on the Green situation I think it is time to have Hampshire in the 17 on a more regular basis.
At present it seems that 90% of the time that Bowen is picked Hampshire is not in the 17, it seems that it has been set in stone that Hampshire is being groomed for the fullback position (and fullback only) and the halfback/hooker replacement position is for Powell and Williams.
When Green goes Hampshire will be the best No 6 in the club if not maybe the best already. This is the opinion of an old supporter who has spent 60 years watching Wigan and who as been brought up watching some great halfbacks, maybe I am to set in my ways and not up to the modern game, but I can only speak what I feel.

Hampshire is a massive talent and we need to the him down. However I don't feel fullback is for him, going forward yes, but under a high ball and defensively he will be too exposed as he isn't that great in any of those areas.

Not giving Bowen a new deal in order to force a player into a position just because we don't want to lose him isn't a good idea.

There is another option if Bowen stays and that is to still give Rocky the number 1 shirt (if that's where the club feels he is destined to play) and use Bowen as cover and rotation; much like was suggested for Carmont in his final season.

I look at this in a different way. If we re sign Bowen, then we will be more inclined to play Hampshire at 6 next year. Which is where he should play. Win-win.
Get him signed up.

I agree on both counts. Just posted similar views in another thread.

I think short term full back is the best place for Hampshire. There is no doubting his or Williams' talent but to put them both in at 6 and 7 won't do either if them any good. I can see Rocky (and Sam T) following the Lockyer route from gaining 1st team experience at FB and moving to stand off once established.
