| Quote: Cruncher "is this guy really the heir to Eddie Hemmings's throne?
I hope to God not.
He was no improvement on Wiggy at all last night. If anything, he was worse.
I appreciate that it was a much closer and more exciting game than anyone expected (and that Featherstone played very well indeed), but having no issue with either of those two Fev 'tries' and then trying to claim that Tommy dropped that ball over the line were reminiscent of the other muppet at his worst.
Please don't tell me that when Wiggy's finally gone, we're going to have to put up with this latest 'Warrington employee' for the next 20 years.'"
Agreed, last night, Carney's approach to broadcasting really, it was right out the Hemmings school of one eyed cr@p.

| He pronounces "H" wrong. Whenever he says "HD" he pronounces the aitch with a hard "H" at the beginning. He says "Haych." It drives me mad.

| I think they had a difficult job, and didn't do it too well. They were far too excitable, when the match was exciting enough. I normally like Carney but he was poor last night in my view. Probably too much of a Wigan slant in the team for an old fashioned blood and thunder cup tie, and they like the onfield team, struggled to come to terms with the conditions.

Totally right. He was obviously trying to 'talk up' Featherstone to make it more of a spectacle, when he actually didn't need to. After a while, it became embarrassingly obvious.

| I started watching sky games with the volume down awhile ago. Did he really say that tommy dropped the ball over the line? What was his view on the obvious knock on for the fev try?

I'm sure someone from another club with say i'm biased, but. Last night, with regard to the Hardman and Tommy tries, i felt they were looking for reasons to give the Hardman try, and reasons to not give that Tommy try. If the Hardman try had been a try attempt by us, i would not have expected to have it awarded...
Cue trolls saying i'm bitter, biased...... Whatever

I never usually comment on a refs performance but last night just seemed corrupt to me and I agree with you 100% it almost seemed like someone was told to try and make it an even playing field. I have noticed before when super league teams play championship teams that the refs are a lot more strict with the super league teams than the championship teams. I suppose it makes a better game though but it's not exactly fair.

Silverwood got dogs abuse stood infront of the Wigan fans when he went to the screen for Tommys try. It was a laughable performance by him and his reaction stood infront of us when they showed the Leuluai try was embarrassing with him blowing his cheeks out as though to say it was touch and go.
It was nothing of the sort and would have been given after 1 or 2 views in superleague.

He basically called it a perfectly okay, clear-cut try, when in actual fact the exact opposite was true.
He also had a major problem with the Wigan try that got disallowed. If you watch it again, you'll see that there was no real obstuction. Hock was in the way, but the Featherstone player got round him easily and could still have affected a tackle if he'd been quick enough. For Carney it was a blatant obstuction and deserved to be overruled, when at best it was 50/50.
With regard to the officials' performance, I sometimes wonder why touchjudges even bother turning up, but then it was Silverwood who missed the two-on-one steal. Ultimately it didn't matter, but if that mistake had ended up costing us the match, I think there'd have been another uproar about incompetent refereeing. Even Carney said that was an erroneous decision, though his tone was quite dismissive (a la Eddie Hemmings).
Wane made a comment after the game that he was disappointed it was allowed to be played at Championship pace rather than at Super League pace. That could be a dig at the Wigan players for not getting their stuff together sooner, but it could also be a sideswipe at Silverwood for ignoring an awful lot of offsides and lying-on.

| I was very disappointed after watching the match on sky, and even though we won I was annoyed after having listened to 80 minutes of Brian and co. Whilst Fev where underdogs and I could see why he'd want to big it up or whatever, the bias was so blatant. Up until last night I'd enjoyed listening to Carney but I feel he went a bit to far last night. Some of the decisions where questionable at best, but we also got away with one or two things ourselves however it did come across at times that we were playing "championship rules" with the speeds at the ptb etc.

Is this is Ian Hardman try that went to the video referee and was actually given as a try?
Do you have a problem with Carney saying that it was a try (when it was actually given by a video official after multiple replays as a try)? Surely any commentator "worth his salt" would be able to get these calls right? Which he did.
How quickly some of the Wigan faithful have turned on a player that made his name at the club, simply because he signed for a rival later on in his career! Get a grip man.

Er, I was told from a referee that he was instructed from the RFL at one game to 'try and keep the score down'. Hence my rather suspicious opinions regarding refereeing...

Agreed. I realise most of the audience are neutrals and neutrals always back the underdog, but that didn't justify the ridiculously one-sided commentary. Rod Studd was the worst offender in my book, almost soiling himself over a 40-20 that never was near the end of the game.
As usual, the Sky team came to the game with a script in mind, in this case, a giant killing scenario, which I can understand in principle - I simply think they overdid it. The problem with Hemmings' commentary is that he has only ever had one script as far as Wigan are concerned - the one where we lose.

Carney was one of my favourite players when he first came to us but his attitude when he decided that the grass was greener in Australia stunk and he couldn't get away from us quick enough and I for one have no respect for him whatsoever as a result, not that he will care how any of us feel.
