| Quote: MGarbutt1986 "So why didn't IL get him to sign a legally binding document?
People are only seeing that he's in RU, and are jealous that the RFU have done more for their game than the RFL.
RFU, like it or not, is the prevelant Rugby code in the UK, and I am not an RFU fan, but I can see it on it's merits. I hope Lam and his squad can turn it around, and believe they will.'"
That they didn’t nail down a contract is the X factor in this mystery,I have no issue with him finding a job in union,I didn’t think it’d work, but he’s stringing the club along and even worse Lenegan is allowing the club to be strung along,it’s time to move on,wish him well and get on with either Lam for a couple of season or someone else.

| Just listened to Edwards refuse to rule out joining England on the radio, he also said he’s just gone through the equivalent of 5 challenge cups which I took as a back handed dig.
I’m trying to refrain from making a judgement until it all comes out in the wash on this incident but I’m really starting to dislike Edwards and my gut is he’s taken advantage of Wigan’s naivety by just having a verbal contract.

"I actually haven’t signed a contract with Wigan but I’ve been conversing with the chairman and we’ll probably make a press statement over the next few days."
He wouldnt keep saying it if he had.'"
The contract signing is still at bottom of it all. One saying one thing and the other saying something else. Has there actually be clarity, legally about if the contract was signed?

| I think Lenagen is at fault for not getting Edwards to sign a contract yet everyone is on Edwards back

Hey, I actually enjoy Rugby Union but my primary love is RL and more importantly Wigan. I would be equally annoyed with him had he done this to any other RL club. SE is doing his best to make this a face/off when it simply does not need to be.

He's just saying the size of each match is massive and the effort and emotion involved is taxing, hence whe he has a holiday booked. We don't need to over analyse everything, there's enough to get down about at the moment without discecting a fairly accurate comment about the effort that's gone into the six nation.

I think the Six Nations comment is a compliment to the challenge cup. They play 5 big meaningful games, each in front of a bigger crowd than the CC.
Each game has two full nations invested into the game, a CC has minimal interest from even one nation.
CC is nothing compared to the 6 Nations. It simply cannot be compared.

Agree to disagree, too much nostalgia in my view.

Put it this way; IL has a gentlemans agreement with one of the biggest legends this club has outside of Billy Boston. Club legend shakes hand, has pictures taken and says 'yep, cant wait to take over'. You have to surely take SE at his word? You wouldnt think 'ah yeah hes going to screw Wigan over', are you? Of course you get a contract signed asap afterwards, that is a huge oversight, but lets not kid ourselves here - Edwards is playing us like a banjo and should be castigated by anyone and everyone involved in RL.

He's delivered us half a dozen trophies in the salary cap era. So he'll always be a gooder guy than Whelan or Mo.
Edwards, meanwhile, has lied through his teeth.

IL has done Wigan proud and I believe the supporters of the club are very aware of where we would be without him. He deserves a huge degree of respect and thanks.
Shaun Edwards has done nothing but parade around for a few hours in a Wigan Warriors polo shirt dropping hints about RU players he will bring with him then when Shaun Wane has gone on to be unbeaten since the announcement he has realised he can't top that and would rather stay where he is. Good riddance in my opinion.
Time to get behind the team for the remainder of 2019 and show them they have our support no matter what.

| I've watched these developments from the outside has a Hull fan.
I think it is a bit of an insult. There's no comparison. He played a major part in winning those cups with the best team in RL history, even more so his home town club.
Winning the GS is a noteworthy achievement but he wasn't even the head coach. Massive difference.
I'm still staggered why Wigan "appointed" him in the first place. He hasn't been involved never mind coached a RL for 20 years. The game has changed drastically.
I appreciate that he is a Wigan legend but surely there must be better options than Edwards.

Edwards has been regarded with reverence in Wigan ... not just for his playing achievements, but also for the very visible coaching skills he demonstrated in RU. It was always great to see a local RL lad show the rah-rah how to play their own game. Maybe that clouded our judgement a bit. But no one could have realistically expected that he'd pull a stunt like this.
Whatever we think of his abilities, he'll be no one's first choice now (not in league, anyway).
