I very much doubt this would be the case.

IL isn’t stupid enough to appoint a guy like Madge and then under cut him. IL has proven to be a very smart operator in his time at Wigan and I going over Maguire’s head just wouldn’t be the smart thing to do.

TBF IL seems like the kind of guy that once he’s appointed a capable person in a key position he seems to let them get on with it and trusts they are the right guys for the job. I know this is the way it works with Mick Hogan and the marketing dept and I’m sure that it’s the same way with the Coaching dept as well.

IL will have to balance the books but Madge will know what he’s gotta work with cap wise.

IL would like to build a team of wiganers thats why i said i can see Brown Being on IL wishlist..I liked Brown when he was with us and i like brown now..But we have a better stand off and IMO we need a scrum half.

But I'm not sure what you don't understand about the state of our current wage bill, the salary cap, the international exchange rate with Australia, etc.

It's now such a cliche. As soon as there is a sniff of any other SL club swooping for a 'name' Aussie, there are people on here coldly furious that we aren't the ones.

I too would like us to sign the best players in the world. But so often now, the club has explained our policy and status with regard to signing big name Australians. We've been told fairly categorically that, for the time being at least, such signings are highly unlikely.

It's not even as if the current big names over here are doing their clubs much good. Most of them are underperforming, permanently injured or seem to want to go home.

I realy dislike the idea of Sam at 1 he's the best stand off in the league, one of our most creative players so why fix something that is'nt broken especially when we have Roberts at fullback.

I'd like Finch but to me it wouldnt be the end of the world if we dont get a new scrum half, i've been impressed with how Tommy is adapting his game quietly. Admittedly he needs to work on his long range kicking game as does Sam but other than that i think as a partnership they are more then capable to help us win trophies.

We need to look at our Props imo. If rumours are to believed Saints could be looking at ...

While I can't really disagree with any of that I think it's important we do compete for the best players if they are available and affordable. If other clubs such as Wire, Saints and Leeds who already obviously have big squads and wage bills can sign the likes of those mentioned recently in this thread and we can't, then something is wrong.

The exchange rate going south has made it hard to sign top players but we should have room under our cap come 2011 for a star player or two. If whatever chunk of the salary cap we put aside as wages for a star player is no longer enough to attract a top Aussie, fair enough but if other top clubs pick these players up and we don't while maintaining the high standard of the rest of their squads then I think we have a problem.

If we rule out going for any overseas players on favour of Wigan'ers rather than on financial grounds that would be a mistake IMO.

But is Finch a top aussie? He's a good player no doubt, but he's not at the level of Perry whom Saints are signin imo, who is a current Aus international and SOO player.

Why are people still talking about us signing Finch?
