Exactly, it doesnt paint him in the best light.
If its only a 12 month deal then its also a pointless appointment, it reaffirms not only is he not first choice, but he doesnt really have the chairmans full backing.

The 12 month contract, is that as a assistant or a first team coach?? The guy from Melbourne Maguire looks like he wont be getting any of the top sydney jobs anyway. So will that open a door for us?

Be it is assistant to McGuire or at head coach, a 12 month deal is pointless.

Not really if Maguire is the HC, IL might of made the deal just to see if the two can work, no point in giving him a 3 yr deal only to find out that the 2 cant get on. If the past 2yrs have taught us anything about IL it is that he is a shrewd business man and a ruthless basket.

| Or maybe Wane is to be "caretaker" coach for 12 months until a high calibre first team coach is appointed.
Seems like half the playing staff and now coaches are under contract until end of 2010.

| IL gave his usual no comment answer when I heard him interviewed in car on GMR way home. Its not so much the fact he wont say anything as the smugness/arrogance he potrays in doing so.
Noble seemed very jolly in his Sky interview after the game, I still dont believe he is staying but still...

I'd agree that this silence from the club is tormenting us. And if Wigan opt for Shaun Wane instead of one of the Aussie names we've been linked with, it'll be the first move IL will have made that has genuinely worried me.
But the bit I've highlighted above is nothing more than you scrabbling around for something else to complain about. I think you need to accept that - for whatever reason - Wigan are NOT going to announce the new coach until the season is over, and stop taking it so personally. If people like you, and certain members of the press, would get their head around this non-too complex idea, and stop repeatedly asking the Wigan chairman a question that he clearly can't or won't answer at this stage, then I'm sure he'd be less irritable about it.
That said, I too am now concerned by this matter, and - in the event of a disappointing announcement, I will fulsomely criticise IL for it.

I think the situation has become a bit of a farce. We have had all the discussions about whether it would have been a good idea for IL to make the announcement before the end of the season or not but the fact there has been none and it has resulted in both IL and Nobby constantly being asked about it. What does he expect? For IL to get a bit irritable about it is a bit rich IMO. It's his decision not to announce anything that is attracting the questions and the flak from those in the media who want to have a pop.
My view is the constant questioning of both Nobby and IL on the subject supports the opinion that it would have been better to make an announcement earlier.

Or alternatively it just shows that people are impatient.
The club has clearly taken the view that this season must finish before next season's business commences. And it's purely a matter of opinion whether that's the right way to do it, or the wrong way.
I'm starting to think it's the wrong way, because - though I'm sure IL has the club's best interests at heart - it isn't going down well among a vocal section of the fans, and nonsensical conclusions like "it shows he's smug and arrogant" are the result. There's also the journalistic pique angle. Press men looking for a story - like Eddie and Stevo - are furious that they aren't getting one, and are becoming ever more strident in their criticism.
For IL's own sake, he perhaps should have seen this coming and made an announcement. I'm also concerned that this delay is raising expectations. Okay, we're always going to get idiotic rumours like Jon Sharpe is the next coach, but we've also had names like Des Hasler banded around - which are equally unfeasible but only serve to get people excited. If the eventual outcome is Shaun Wane, who I would love to see as assistant-coach but would have serious reservations about in the top job, then I feel there'll be a real sense of anti-climax, and again the fans will be peeved and the atmosphere poisoned.

but if he came out and announced it tomorrow and then we lost at the weekend, the exact same group would blame IL for disrupting the camp or whatever reason they make up to make it his fault. He's obviously decided to only announce it after the seasons over, and why change that view when potentially we could only have 1 game left of our season anyway?

I keep thinking that everytime we've had one and are awaiting the next but then in truth they're quite boring because he gives nothing at all away at them.
Everyone goes looking for answears and just comes away with more questions then thay had in the first place.
Lenagan tells us-
One day we'll have a link up with an NRL team
One day we'll find out if Nobby is going and who's coming in
One day we'll find out if we're signing any new players
one day we may get our own clubhouse/Shop near the stadium
One day we'll find out if we've got a sponsor for next years shirt
and so on and on and on and on yet nothing ever seems to get resolved until the last possible minute and some of the things we get told we'll still be waiting for come 2050.

Thats once he has given the list of things he won't talk about - which defeats the object of the fans forum.

The lack of improvement in the squad for 2010 doesn't.

I know what I heard in the interview, his "thats the future of Wigan RL" answer 3 times, was both smug & arrogant. Perhaps its a misconception of how he is in his and the clubs daily affairs, BUT with regards this issue, he is being arrogant.
