And that one will always be Lockers.

| Really don’t understand the Powell bashing.
Ok he isn’t a world class 9 but he does a cracking job for us. I would think his stats for today would be outstanding again.
In my opinion he is an integral part of the team, we just need to compliment him with a scooting style 9 like Brad Dwyer etc.

| Sarginson tried hard, he just dropped a clanger quite a few times and in all the time he’s been here I don’t think I’ve ever saw him pass to his winger, he’ll never make a centre as long as he’s got a hole in his backside. He would be valuable to keep on as a utility player, someone we could put 5kg and could also play backrow.
I thought we did alright considering, I was expecting an ass whopping if I’m honest. I think once they sort out who will be coach next year then things can improve, we need to rebuild but for us to do that Lenagan will need to dip his hand further into his pocket for players and backroom staff.
Back on topic, Navarette has never been good enough to play for Wigan nor will he be either, like I always said I reckon we only wanted Escare but needed someone for him to talk to in french so signed Navarette too, as if he’s Jimmy 5 bellies equivalent to Escare.

Tell me a worse 9 in SL. There isnt one. Roby, Clarke, Houghton, Leeming, Purcell, McIlorum, McShane... we get absolutely nothing in attack from Powell. Nothing!

I have mixed feelings about him too and would generally agree with you. But I also have eyes in my head and Powell was excellent value for the full 80 this afternoon, in defence and attack. He scooted for plenty of metres on the back of fast plays and a pack who, for once, actually got a roll on in spells today. I couldn't help wonder if people would bag his attack so much if the pack played like that every week.

Powell always gives 100% and his effort can never be questioned. He’s just not good enough, fast enough or skilful enough. We saw today how a modern hooker can really influence a game and Powell, for all his effort is just not capable of doing anything like what Clarke did today and what he does most weeks.

Spot on assessment. It’ll be sad to lose him and his effort but he just doesn’t cut it

| I don't have an issue with Navarette - think he's a decent enough prop that at least makes a bit of a dent. Should have trapped the ball with his foot but there you go.

I’m sure we’re not FT. Just discussing whether or not he’s good enough to be our 9. I’d say he’s valuable but only as a squad player to cover for injuries. I’d love us to sign a 9.

I don’t think he’s good enough. Mistakes like today are too frequent and he just doesn’t seem to improve. The vast majority of props at other clubs are better.
One thing not discussed so far is Hankinson. He must have been spewing after losing his place to Sarginson. Hank has been going very well and for me the right centre spot should be his. Failing that, I’d love to see him have a shot at right second row. Isa is another who works his socks off but adds little when we’re in possession.

I agree with you,Sarge came back in on the back of Hankinson finally finding some sort of form, if that where me id be annoyed to say the least.
As for Naverette he simply isn't good enough time and agin error like this today has cost wigan lets hope they can try and move him on, i know they've tried once but he came back..

| I think Sarginson is playing in the wrong position if I’m honest, he could be a decent fullback for a lower end team, he doesn’t know how to pass so is wasted at centre.

| It's interesting that a consensus is now crystalising about the cadre of players in the current first team who need to move on.
Tautai, Navarette and Sarge because they've had umpteen chances but have stubbornly remained substandard (and are total mistake-machines).
Lockers, Tommy, Clubb (and Flower?) because they are too old or too injury-prone.
Isa and Powell ... good workers but just don't bring enough to the table.
I appreciate that not everyone will agree with all of those, but even if you dismiss two from the equation, that still leaves seven players that we need to replace before we can expect to see real results again. Yes ... as others have said, we are facing quite a rebuild.

For me, Lockers Tommy & Flower must stay but agree the others and certainly the sentiment. Too many just not good enough if we want to consistently challenge for honours.
