My daughter did a year in Clermont as part of her language degree. It's in the middle of nowhere. You'd only go there if you had to go there - its not really en route to anywhere. It was also a major ballache to get back to England from.

| There must be loads of Blake green. Carmont type players who are on the fringe of the NRL. So if Tomkins came that would mean the end for Hampshire, williams

Sam is a better player than both so why would that matter?
I'd argue he's a better 6 than Green as well.
Crazy that anyone would doubt how good of a signing this could be.

| Half the price you will get 2 or 3 players for Sams wages. He's too over priced with crowdes of just over 10.500

Which would DEFINITELY be the end of Hampshire and Williams.
You can't have it both ways. Wigan is a team of journeymen at present, with some promising youngsters. We are in dire need of a star turn.
You say no to that because it would endanger the kids' first team chances. Then you propose an alternative, which is buying several more journeymen.
I'm not sure I understand where you're coming from here, if you're coming from anywhere at all.
Neither Hampshire nor Williams would get much sympathy complaining they were being kept out by Sam Tomkins, especially as he's only one man and other places would still be available if they were prepared to fight for them. But filling the team with lower standard Aussie imports and keeping the kids out that way, would clearly and justifiably be a source of annoyance to a lot of people.
There is no logic at all in the position you've just taken.

Looks more than good, it looks VERY good.
When you then factor in Charnley and Sarginson there's a lot of skillful strike players and lots of pace to boot. I'd get Thornley into the other centre spot and shift Gelling into the pack.
Imo that back line would compare well to any other top side in SL.
After that we are a decent prop short of a completing the side. It doesn't have to be a world class one either just a guy who can turn out consistent performances, good yards and decent minutes. An Andy Coley type signing would be perfect.

Aye, sometimes it's wishful thinking to assume a former player will just slot back in to be the linchpin. Maybe the money it would take is better spent on a couple of fresh but very good players.

If Tomkins did come back I'd be more inclined to look at him at 6 with Hampshire at 1. I think the plan would have always been for him to end up back in the halves and it'd be more dangerous to have the quicker player chiming in from fullback.
A massive part of me wants him back but there's also part of me that thinks he's got a bit of unfinished business in the NRL and right now he's only really shown them about 60% of what he is capable of.

Another name I'd throw in to the hat as a player is like to see us sign would be Ben Crooks. He's not had a game at Parra yet and he's too good to play reserve grade there for too long as he'll waste his talent. He's got rough edges but he's a talent. He's got good pace and footwork and us a very capable goal kicker.
I'd be targeting Tomkins, Crooks and a prop for next year. I'm not sure how realistic that is money wise but Bowen, Burgess and Patrick will surely be off and Pettybourne left late in the day.

Very good shout but I doubt we'd go for him simply because of Thornley and Gildhart. We know that both are highly rated at the club and rightly or wrongly it's not likely we will bring another player in.
We desperately need another prop on our books. An extra prop opens up a multitude of options in the pack like allowing Tautai or Clubb to cover Lockers at 13 whilst not compromising on our front row options.

| Well I would rather have 2 players of greens class than one Sam Tomkins any day of the week.

| To me Hampshire looks like a Danny McGuire replica in the way he likes to play. Playing him at fullback and exposing him every week will demolish his confidence because simply, he isn't a fullback. If Sam comes back, I'd like to see him at fullback and Hampshire at 6. That does create options and serious threat as both can be devastating runners, defences would have to be on their game to keep both quiet.

| Sam is a superstar ( we did the double in 2013 with him in the team and won nothing last year without him in the team!). He is still in his prime and if he is available we have to move heaven and earth (and a lot of cash!) to sign him.
Get him back for 2016, preferably with a prop and possibly a centre, and I am very confident we will do the double - or even the treble!
