| Quote: NickyKiss "I actually thought his effort was very good. Much better then at Widnes and much better then our previous 'project with potential' in Pryce fared.
It's his fitness he needs to work on. He visibly tired after about 20 mins worth of hard work and again in the 2nd half but unlike previously he kept pushing himself. I was really pleased to see him chase a kick down the touchline like his life depended on it Charnley style with about 10 mins left.'"
He also had Finch in his ear all of the game, mind you he wasn't the only one, Finch was "encouraging" the team throughout the game.

I can only disagree with you. Thought he looked really positive, every time the ball went out over the dead ball line he rushed to retrieve it then ran back up to the 20 each time to take it it. That isn't lethargic if you ask me?

| Quote: DaveO "It would show he was a bit thick as well.
Gelling had a good game today but to suggest Richards will have to win his place back on the back of one game by Gelling v a weak side is nuts. In case you missed it Charnley's goal kicking was not very good and against Hull that is luxury Wane can't afford just to prove a point. We are not going to score shed loads of tries v them. They have one of if not the best defence in the league. Goal kicks are going to count so Richards will play and not just because of that but because it is a big game against a team going well and his experience is required.'"
Have you been watching Pat this season? He just doesn't look right at all, if he was playing as well as 2010, or ever 2011 then he would be straight back in no question, but we can't just keep playing him and ignoring nearly half a season's games.

| Considering he is not a winger he had a very good game. He definately has that centre instinct cutting inside alot when he had the ball and a superb offload to carmont for his try.
I was very impressed with him yesterday and can see him in the centres at the weekend.

He was livelier, more enthusiastic, more aggressive and pretty much a different player than played at Widnes, he was a complete pudding that day.

| Its good that Gelling is enjoying playing more than anything, thats one thing we all take for granted. All the WIgan players love to play whether its Sam running rings or Hock charging through, if Gelling plays like that good on him. I wish I had a job which made me as happy as these lot!

| There's still work to be done with him but that was suggested when he signed so we knew that anyway, I was impressed with his ability to beat a man with ease one on one. Definitely a player with potential, will be interesting to see the progress he makes.

| Add him to the long list of exciting players at the club;
Dudson, Hughes, Gelling, Spencer & Russell can be anything they want to be.
I'm excited for the future and having potential like this in the ranks makes it easier when positions have to be filled.
It also leaves room for a one or two marque signings to be made.

Exactly right. We all know the quality of our best starting 17, but squad strength is crucial in this era, and it's great to know that we're not relying on a couple of superstars to carry the team, unlike so often in our past.

| To be fair Richards has struggled with his pace since graham danced on his Achilles in the 2010 grand final. Maybe a couple weeks off will do him some good. As for gelling he looked good yesterday and showed good footwork. Worth remembering though that he's only ever played a handful of first team games and shouldn't be rushed as he's about as experienced as jack Hughes when it comes to the first team. Hopefully he'll play a few more games this year with him stepping into carmonts position when he leaves this year

The amount of young players at the club with huge talent for the here and now as well as potential to improve out of sight in the future is scary. We have the established lads like Sam Tomkins, Charnley, Farrell, Mossop, McIlorum and Tuson and then guys like Gelling, Dudson, Hughes, Logan Tomkins, Powell, Spencer, Russell, King and more at the back.
Add in guys with a minimum of 4 or 5 years in them like Lockers, Hansen, Hock, Prescott, Goulding etc and the squad is set up now for years. We just need to keep investing wisely in available English and overseas talent and the club will stay around the top.
Ian Lenagan is certainly the right man to have stearing this club as he'll ensure it stays on the right track.

It seems such a long time ago when IL held his first fans forum at The Deanery High School and stated that bringing the youth through was the future for Wigan RL rather than the usual quick fix expensive imports.

Yeah mate I was there and it doesn't seem like 2 minutes back.
The first signings we're Mathers, Pryce and Carmont weren't they? One out of three aint bad!
He's had an exceptional spell in charge of the club and he's been the sole reason for us being where we are more so then Maguire, Tomkins, Lockers, Wane etc etc.

I think you are exaggerating a bit. While IL certainly brought Madge here, it was Madge who changed the entire ethos of the club from the playing point of view. A club can bring through as many players as it likes form the junior ranks and it can also sign top class players from outside but if the first team coach isn't up to it then they will be wasted. As Barrett was under Noble and Sam nearly was.

No Lenagan no Maguire is the point i'm getting at and in turn probably no Wane or Bitcom or Rads and possibly no Sam because I doubt he would have hung around as long at a club drifting nowhere as we were before Lenagan came in.
Without any doubt the most important man to come in to the club in 20 plus years imo.
