I think he'd stop if someone actually offered to take him up on one.

Quote: SomersetSaint "My comment was not aimed at any club, it wasn't meant to be scoring points, it is an observation that could be aimed at any company in any business sector. For sure, Saints have been making losses for too many years, and that is an unsustainable position, for any rugby club, or any business. The new ground will hopefully increase our revenue, but unless that can be turned into profits or at least a break even position, then Saints as we know it today won't be around for much longer.'"

To address two points; despite being a business, no SL club will ever post a profit remotely close to that of businesses with comparable turnover. Unfortunate, but true. In fact, I would speculate most SL Chairmen/Chief Execs would be delighted with covering operational costs, a modest profit would have them doing cartwheels.

The ground will increase your revenue streams exponentially. I wouldn't know where to begin in respect of speculating the corporate level of increase from Saints' matchday revenues.

I would imagine Saints marketing/BDM has been hammering local businesses, highlighting the scope and number of hospitality suites available to hire every day of the week. I would imagine they are going into Manchester and Liverpool, too, stating how cost effective they are in comparison to PL football clubs. Furthermore, I would imagine Saints have a licence to hold Civil ceremonies, opening them up to the wedding market, also. This is where owning your own stadium pays off; sweating the asset seven days a week, fifty two weeks a year.

For those guffawing at Saints' and Warrington's roof problems; neither are a financial issue. Both will be rectified at no cost due to contractual obligations by installers/manufacturers. KR was a money pit due to it's age, Saints' new place will be covered for a minimum ten or twelve years dependent on the contract being under dead or seal.

PS

Ask yourselves this; do you really think there are no maintenance costs factored into the lease agreement of the DW?

I would agree entirely with this, if saints break even year on year it will be fantastic. What we cannot do though is go on making losses year on year. Sporting clubs on general have been doing this for the last few years and sooner or later someone is going to pull the plug on it and when they do no club will be immune, no matter whether it is saints or man u.

Man City have just posted a annual loss of £200 million thats been written off by their owner! That is simply staggering! Manchester City must be the luckiest sporting club on earth!

Is it though. I know at least a couple of the Wigan players were quite envious of the Saracens training complex when they trained there before the Challenge Cup final.

I think they were referring to teams in RL.

Looking increasingly like there won't be any more re-arranged Sunday games from May onwards. eusa_whistle.gif eusa_shhh.gif

Making QPR look like a good team is not the way to stay in the division, so looks like you might be right on that one unless Whelan bites the bullet and gets rid of the manager.

For anyone looking to turn this into a Latics gloating thread - don't. Ejaculate away on Piespace please.

Either that, or we could be shifted to Monday games at some point.

Don't forget when buying tickets for Good Friday to ask for seats in the shallow end icon_wink.gif
