| Yeah, the risk is pretty big due to a few factors. The injury record isn't great, there have been concussion problems, does he see this move as a step down from the NRL? (Our record isn't great in terms of getting lads back from the NRL) and is there a motivation (beyond money) to play for the great rivals of the club he came through at and supported as a lad? The talent is unquestionable but there is a lot to consider. As pointed out though, if it's good enough for Peet and co, he'll get my full support and if we get the best Luke Thompson, we'll be getting a cracking player.

I'm not especially bothered about the last bit. If he still has the hunger for the sport, then I'm sure he'll be just as motivated to do well in a Wigan jersey as anyone else's.
Agree with the rest though. I'm probably more uneasy than I am excited, which says a lot when you think of how good he is/was. You'd like to think that with Burgess in everyone's recent memory, that the club would have really done their due diligence with his fitness before committing to such a long and presumably lucrative contract, but then again there's only so much of that you can do.
One big difference between now and then is that there's no pressure on Thompson to carry the rest of our pack. Burgess had to compensate for a group of young forwards who were all enthusiasm and promise without power, and for Clubb and Flower who were past their best. This time our pack is coming into its own with or without Thompson, and so it's not a total disaster if he isn't back to his best. On the flip side, if he is somewhere near his best, that would probably enough to make our pack the best in the country.

| I think we’re definitely still a bit burned by the George Burgess disaster and the point about our reliance on him, compared to Burgess is a big one. If he work out, it will be great but we don’t look short even without him. A 4 or 5 prop rotation of Byrne, Ellis, Havard, Cooper and Dupree looks very good as it is.

| Signs for 4 years, proves fitness in year one, rips it up in year two and then he goes back to the NRL for a handsome fee, basically got him for nothing for two years

| He could be our Peacock, or another Burgess. I don't think there'll be a middle ground on this one.

| Our set of props for next year are scary good.
Compare this to the Flower/Clubb/Bullock/MClark error and its night and day.
Good blend of size, athleticism, explosiveness and work rate.
Thompson would be our smallest front line prop of the main 6.

| We must be the envy of Super League .
Arguably the best forward back in the league already .
Signing a superstar prop we don’t even need. If it doesn’t work out we would still be very strong but knowing Peet and his way of operating I’ve no doubt that LT will be a success.

They are planning ahead most likely cooper will retire in a year
Yeh I agree he is a bonus and not being relied upon for next year

My whole body shivered thinking of that prop rotation.
We did win SL with Navarette/Flower/Clubb/Sutton which isn't far behind.

Imagine managing that and your own fans questioning the decisions / ability of the coach at the time - he’s still massively underrated Wane.

You know this for certain? Not meaning that to sound funny If we sign LT and all the incoming we must be near cap. We’re releasing Cust possibly Thornley. We must be loosing others

We signed Thompson weeks ago. I have been told another will follow. As well as Cust and Thornley, King will go and I have no doubt there will be others. Three marquee players will also help us regarding the salary cap.

At the moment we have four confirmed ins in Leeming,.Walters, Keighran and Chan and four confirmed outs in KPP, Cust, King and Thornley. Individual salaries won't be like for like of course but maybe the combined salary value of the ins and outs won't be far off. You'd imagine other potential outgoings could include Powell, Hampshire and Silva. Harvie Hill would probably be better served going on loan for a year to another SL club.
You can just about see it stack up from the outside looking in when you take into account the third marquee player rule but it looks tight. Fingers crossed there isn't a big sting in the tail with a surprise departure of one of our main men e.g. Smithies, French etc.
