| Quote: Cruncher "I can't believe there's any Wigan fan anywhere who wouldn't want to see Luke Thompson in cherry and white.'"
Luke Thompson of four years ago definitely, the current model, massive question marks.
I keep looking back to the last World Cup, he barely featured for Wane and if Walmsley had been fit I doubt he'd have been picked at all.

He's still only 28. It's not like he's a guy at the very end of his career.

| Thompson is very much a risk v reward prospect. Does his injury history, particularly concussions make it too risky?
The reward is potentially huge if, and a big if, he can play at the level we know he is capable of.
For next season we have Cooper, Havard, Byrne, Ellis, Dupree and Mago as front line props with Hill who will need to either go out on loan or get some decent game time. I’m not sure the investment and risk is needed.

It’s not adding up is it? Why keep Mago if you know you’re getting Thompson? He’ll potentially be 7th choice! Harvie Hill needs minutes and will be 8th choice if it happens.
Something would have to give and you wonder if it’s a surprise exit or two or a positional switch. Have we not signed an out and out second rower because we plan on putting Smithies in there and then using Thompson/Ellis at loose? Or are lads like Smithies and Shorrocks off? And then Thompson/Ellis start at loose and O’Neill backs up.
It’ll be interesting to see it play out if it comes off anyway.

| Good to have a Wigan rumour at least. Since we did the 3 announcements of Leeming, Chan and Walters it’s gone a bit quiet. Would like to sign at least 1-2 more

| Thompson would make 9 front rowers and thats assuming Walters is used only as a second row forward.
Cooper
Dupree
Byrne
Ellis
Mago
Havard
Hill
Chan
Thompson
Great to be linked with big names and I'm all for more power in our pack after years of being lightweight but something doesn't add up.

| it seems odd to me too, and not in a good way, cos if it was to happen, it would surely mean some sudden departures.

Given our injuries in the front row that number may be about right.

Wouldn't his salary only count 50k on the cap with the 3rd marquee player rule for home grown players. If so then I dont imagine anybody would have to leave suddenly

I cannot work out why we resigned Mago, irrespective of whether Thompson signs for us or not. We would have been better advised to spend his salary cap on a second row forward or a utility back.

| I think all will be revealed regarding Thompson in the next week or so when he is back in England.

Now being reported by The Mole and Telegraph Sport in Australia, looks to be gathering a lot of pace.
